The sun has been shining, the daffodils are in full bloom, and I am on an all things lemon kick lately. Yellow is such a pretty, fun, happy color, whether it be from the sun, flowers, or dessert, I can't seem to get enough. I know I've used lemons in several recipes here recently, but I'm not even going to apologize for it. As a kid, when other kids were asking their mom for candy at the grocery store, I was asking mine if I could go home with a lemon. Weird kid? Probably. But that's how we breed them in my family. For my daughter it was cucumbers. Like, what 5 year old goes to the store and asks for a lemon or a cucumber? Apparently just us odd ones. I bought myself some yellow tulips this week, since tulips are my favorite flower, and I feel that on some unconscious level, looking at them every time I went into the kitchen had me craving something lemony. I found myself browsing through Golden Blossom Honey's recipes looking for something to scratch my lemon itch, and found this Tangy Lemon Dessert Sauce that I knew was going to be the winner.

I always have some kind of dessert on hand, like in the section of my freezer that's reserved for stashing pound cake, ice cream, and other little indulgences. I did just buy an angel food cake from the bakery with intentions of making some strawberry shortcake, but berries are so ridiculously priced right now, at the grocers they stayed. So what better time than now to mix up a lemon dessert sauce for my sad little angel cake? Not only was this an amazing way to dress up a plain angel food cake, I ended up using it on pancakes too when I realized we were all out of maple syrup. What a fantastic swap that was! Like with most sauces, I doubled the batch because this will keep in an air tight container in the refrigerator for several days, and with the whole family wanting dessert after dinner or as a breakfast topping, I knew we'd go through a single batch fairly quickly. I had to refrain from licking the last bits out of the bowl, but did straighten myself out in the nick of time and used a silicone spatula to get every last drop onto my pancakes. You know a recipe is good when you're desperately trying to scrape every last bit out of the bowl. If you're a lemon junkie like me, this is a recipe you're not going to want to let slip past you!

1/2 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY

Did you have any odd grocery requests when you were a child?

  1. Lol on you wanting a lemon! Mine was the grocery store’s ham salad. It was so freaking good! I also loved what my family called Lebanon baloney. It was similar to salami. You can google it. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid.

    Weirdos unite!

    1. I have never heard of Lebanon baloney before, but I think it looks a lot like those summer sausage rolls you get in holiday gift baskets. I loved those as a kid. Paired with cheese and olives, it was a treat!

      Weirdos unite, indeed!

  2. Gorgeous photos, especially da tulips!
I have a friend who hates yellow, and whenever she says that I am like BLASPHEMY! How can one not love yellow da phook???
When I was little they almost never took me to a store, but when they did the only thing I would ever ask was mayo. It is still the cheapest thing in the shops, and yet I always had to ask for it. I do not ever remember they taking me to the stalls with sweets or chocolates and such things... that did not even exist in my imagination.

    1. You need to unfriend that person asap. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. Yellow is delightful!
My best friend hates mayo. She won't even let her husband bring it into her house, that's how much she hates it. Like you, I love it! I probably didn't like it as a child though, so you have me beat on the condiment weirdness LOL.

  4. I love angel food cake. But I made a lemon pound cake last year with a lemon glaze and omg it was so good. I bet angel food cake with a lemon sauce was good. It sure sounds good.

    1. It was very good. Though I will always pick pound cake over angel food cake. I like how dense it is. But both are really good!

  6. Oh yes, I am a lemon junkie. I don't eat them just to eat them though, too sour for me. In a recipe? Perfect!!! And for me, though I love cucumbers, it's yellow squash. I wash, slice and eat and don't give a hoot who thinks I've lost my marbles.

    1. I can no longer eat them straight like I did as a child, but in a recipe, you bet I never turn it down! I do the same thing with squash. Eat it raw. It is soooo good! I guess we've both lost our marbles, eh?

    1. I've always been a bit different, but I like it. Probably why I don't have a lot of friends, but I like me and the world that I've made for myself, weirdness and all.

      Happy weekend, Blue!
