Does anyone else here get really excited when seasonal fruits hit the shelves, then end up overbuying in the midst of that excitement? It was plums for me this season. A normal run would net me 3 or 4 plums total, but I quadrupled that recently, then had to figure out what to do with the excess before it all went bad. Thankfully I knew I could turn to my trusty Golden Blossom Honey recipe index and find a tasty and satisfying way to use them up in a pinch. There I found this Stewed Plums with Greek Yogurt and Granola recipe and didn't waste any time diving in.

The fun thing about this recipe is the stewed plum topping can go over the yogurt cold or warm, so it's a great transitional recipe going from summer to fall. Right now I like it chilled, but on cooler days this autumn, I know I am going to want to pour it into my bowl fresh out of the pan. It's got the right amount of sweet and warmth to keep the taste buds happy for the next few months, so go ahead and grab a few extra plums on your next grocery run and whip up this delicious concoction for breakfast. I bet you'll be tempted to buy extra plums on every grocery run once you've tried this recipe!

Ingredients

Plums:
2 pounds fresh plums, halved, pitted, each plum cut into eights
1/2 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups low-fat or non-fat Greek yogurt
1 cup granola, check in bulk section of your supermarket for granola

  1. Those round plums are the best! We usually have the long ones as they are used for making plum brandy and jam, but I don't like them much. For some reason fruit is late this summer, it is already July and we still don't have a lot of peaches and nectarines nor apricots, but melons are here.

    1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a long plum. These are the only ones that we have, though some have a deep purple center and some have a peach colored one. O personally like the darker ones best.

We haven’t seen many peaches either. They are on the shelves, but it seems like nowhere near what I’ve seen this time of year in the past.

  3. Whenever I over buy fruit, I share with my pooch. LOL Not very creative, but he does love it, especially the bananas. I don't eat yogurt, but I would try this with some vanilla or chocolate ice cream. YUM!

  4. My latest obsession with plum is finding it in a fragrance where it smells good (but I'd take it in a granola topped yogurt too ;) ). :) The pictures are phenomenal, as usual! Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. I think it’s one of those foods you either love or hate. It was an acquired taste for me. I didn’t start eating it until I was in my mind 30’s because I didn’t live the texture.

  7. I’ve never had stewed plums. Do you peel them? Seems like a lot of work! We picked 7.5 pounds of blueberries on Monday. I froze most of them to use throughout the year!

    1. No peeling necessary! The skins cook right down with the rest of it, though you might find a tiny skin straggler or two, but you’d never really notice it unless you were paying close attention to every bite.

That’s a lot of blueberries! I need to go pick some myself before the season is up. Is just been either too hot or too rainy this blueberry season so far :(

  8. I like plain yogurt, where I add my own toppings in. I’d probably gobble this up.

    1. I like doing that too, but I always buy the vanilla version because I like the extra bit of sweetness in it.
