ThunderWorks Offers the Gift of Relaxation

Disclosure- I received the mentioned product courtesy of the sponsor for the purpose of this review. All opinions are genuine, based on my experience with the product, and have not been influenced by promotional items.

It's no secret that my dogs are my babies. I don't play favorites with my kids, but I'll be the first to admit that I do have a favorite dog, and that's my male boxer, Rocky. Maybe it's because other than Jason, we are a house full of girls (he's my baby boy!) or because he's a mama's boy that I tend to gravitate towards him the most.

Boxer

When people are meeting him for the first time, they tend to shy away. He's a solid 90 pounds and that makes people put their guard up. Yes, he's a big boy, but once you get to know him, you realize he's the biggest softie in the world. In his mind, he's small enough to be a lap dog, always wants to snuggle, and get will jump for joy (literally JUMP! for joy) when presented with the opportunity to go for a car ride or a run outside. He's got a zest for the good things in life and won't waste a minute expressing his enthusiasm for affection or play. Looks can be deceiving with my boy though. While most days he's very energetic, he does tend to suffer from separation anxiety and is terrified of loud noises.

There was something going around Facebook a few months back that said dogs really hate to be hugged because it stresses them out. I'm calling BS on that story. If I sit on the floor and say "Who wants a hug?" Rocky will immediately come running over, plop down in my lap, and practically beg to be squeezed into a big hug. I'm thinking that dogs with anxiety like mine actually prefer the feeling of being embraced tightly, and since I can't be available to give hugs all day long, I love being able to wrap my dog into his ThunderShirt

ThunderShirt

Boxer ThunderShirt

The ThunderShirt helps to sooth my dog's anxiety by its constant gentle pressure. It works much like swaddling an infant. Simply wrap it around your dog, strap it in place, and your dog feels snug and secure.

We're past the fireworks stage, which is always a nightmare for us, but we're heading back into the thunderstorm season which always stresses Rocky out. At the first sound of thunder rumble, he'll hide under my bed and shake so hard until the storm passes, it sometimes feels like his shakes are causing an earthquake to go along with the thunderstorm. But, now that he's got his ThunderShirt, the anxiety has seemed to calm down drastically during the storms.

Boxer ThunderShirt

There are over 32 million houses in the US that have a pet that struggles with some form of anxiety (thunderstorms, fireworks, separation, exposure to new people or animals, etc) and it is estimated that owners have had to replace $710 million dollars worth of damage done to household items due to the destruction pets caused by their anxiety issues. ThunderShirt has become a household name in the wearable pet anxiety category, but now they have new product offerings that include various other drug-free anxiety solutions for both dogs and cats. From diffuser kits to calming sprays, there are several great options to choose from to help your dog feel less stressed and more secure.

It's never too early to start thinking about holiday shopping, and there's no better gift than giving the gift of relaxation to your pets. My Rocky adores his ThunderShirt and rests easier feeling snug and secure when mom can't be around to hold him all day.

10 Minute Craft ~ Stenciled Dog Toy Box

Since the start of the year, home organization has been my #1 priority. I've been going through my house, room by room, scrubbing everything down and decluttering. Most of the junk has made its way to the basement where I'll spend a few days sorting through what we'll keep for later use, what we'll pass on to family and friends, and what we'll be donating to charity.

I'm trying to live a live free of clutter, so I've spent a small fortune at the hardware store on shelving and bins to help me keep everything tucked away, yet easy to access. I'll buy cheap storage solutions for the stuff that's tucked into cabinets and closets, but for the stuff that's within every day view, I'll spend a little more for nice baskets and containers. Since my dogs were puppies, I've always stored their toys in plastic dollar store containers, and even though they are not chewers, they do think the containers that hold their toys are chew toys.

We thought we'd try a metal basket after the destruction of several of those cheap plastic bins. See how well that turned out?

I was sick of looking at that twisted metal bin, so I went to Michael's to see if they had any cute, yet cheap solutions. There I picked up this wooden crate for about $3.50 after sales and coupons. It was kind of boring to look at, but I knew I could spruce it up rather quickly with a few stencils cut out from my Silhouette Cameo.

It only took me a few minutes to type up some font and add a paw print to the design. I cut out 2 more paw prints for the sides of the bucket and I was as good as done.

If you have a steady hand and are good with paint, this can easily be made without vinyl. I do not have an artistic bone in my body, so I had to work with what's easy for me.

If you don't have a cutting machine, or you don't want to mess with paints, you could also hand cut the designs yourself from a sheet of vinyl.

Here's hoping that my dogs don't have a taste for wood and this bucket actually sticks around for a while! Either way, at least it was cheap and easy to decorate :)

Have you done any home organization this year?

Santa Paws is Delivering SmartBones® This Year! {Giveaway} #SmartBonesChews

Disclosure: I received the mentioned product courtesy of the sponsor for the purpose of this review. All opinions stated here are my own. The SmartBones information, product samples, and gift cards, and have been provided by PetMatrix.

Christmas music has made its way to the Mahoney house, I've busted out my holiday sweaters, and I am pleased to announce that I am more than 1/2 way done with my holiday shopping. High 5 to me! Santa will be stopping by with a few fun gifts for the family, but his sidekick, Santa Paws, is going to be the star in my dog's eyes this holiday season. I like to make sure everyone in my family gets gifts on Christmas, and that includes the dogs too. So, what do 2 spoiled boxers and 1 spoiled pug get to open on Christmas Day? SmartBones® from PetMatrix, of course!

SmartBones® Chews

When it comes to what I feed my pets, I always strive to give the very best. My boxers are sensitive to a lot of foods, so we are very cautious on what they consume. I love PetMatrix because they are committed to providing the healthiest, tastiest pet chews available. SmartBones® chews are raw-hide free, highly digestible, and my dogs can attest, 100% delicious.

SmartBones® Dog Chews

SmartBones® chews outer layer is made from wholesome, flavorful vegetables, including sweet potatoes, carrots, and peas. The inner layer includes real chicken, for a treat that dogs can't resist. SmartBones SmartChews® are made with a grain-free formula, making them an easy to digest chew. They are vitamin and mineral enriched, contain no artificial coloring, and also come in a variety of fun animal shapes.

SmartBones® Dog Chews

Wrigley, my little pug, doesn't make an appearance too often on here because she is about 15 years old. Her main hobbies include sleeping pretty much all day, so she doesn't get too thrilled when we try to take her photo. Since she's an older dog and doesn't have very many teeth left, we can't give her the SmartBones® chews. So, I was really excited to learn that PetMatrix is now offering SmartNaturals, a 100% natural meat treat. The pieces are small and soft, so even my little granny pug has no issues eating them. They are available in 2 different flavor varieties, grass fed Beef and Sweet Potatoes or grass fed Lamb and Rosemary.

SmartNaturals pet treats

Look at that smile! If SmartNaturals® can get this old girl's tail wagging, I'd call that a winner in my book any day!

We tried giving the boxers Rawhide® when they were puppies and they had a terrible allergic reaction. Our vet said she would never recommend feeding a dog any kind of rawhide treat because it is just not a healthy option for them, even for the ones that aren't allergic. It can pose several health risks, including stomach and intestinal blockage and possible ingestion of the toxic chemicals used to process rawhide chews. Independent digestibility studies show that SmartBones® chews are highly digestible, and tests demonstrate that 9 out of 10 dogs prefer SmartBones® chews over the leading rawhide chews.

PetMatrix offers a wide variety of treats to fit your dog's needs. Don't let your pets go through the holidays empty-pawed this year! Fill their stockings with delicious SmartBones® chews!

If you would like to learn about the SmartBones® and SmartNaturals® chews and treats featured here, or if you would like to see all of the other available varieties, be sure to check out the SmartBones® website

Dogs Just Wanna Have Fun! + $25 Visa Giveaway #SmartBonesChews

Disclosure: The information, gift card, gift pack and giveaway has been provided to me by SmartBones®.

It's no secret here that our dogs are a huge part of our family life. Our boxers just turned 5, but I swear they still have the energy of dogs less than half their age. In addition to being highly energetic, boxers are extremely intelligent. We have to be sure they have plenty of activity to stimulate their minds each day to keep them from growing bored quickly. Outdoor play is a favorite activity, and Rocky just learned how to use the outdoor doggy water fountain to grab a drink when he gets thirsty during these hot summer days.

Adrian prefers to find a sunny spot in the grass to roll around.

And they both love frolicking at the beach!

Boxers Beach

Boxer Beach

As much as they would love it, their human family can't spend all day playing out in the yard or at the beach. In order to keep them busy when we can't dedicate every waking minute to their needs, we give them SmartBones® chews.

SmartBones Chews

Chews are an excellent way to not only stimulate a dog's mind, but they also help to keep dog's teeth clean and jaws strong. Because Rocky has food sensitivities, when it comes to what our dogs consume, we only buy the best. SmartBones® chews are made with real chicken on the inside and wholesome vegetables on the outside, are rawhide-free, highly digestible, and 100% delicious!

SmartBones chews

I love that SmartBones® chews are a healthy way to satisfy our dog's natural chewing instinct. Our vet strongly discourages the use of rawhide because of its potential health risks to dogs (and it causes Rocky to break out in hives), so giving our dogs SmartBones® chews gives me peace of mind.

They say 9 out of 10 dogs prefer SmartBones® chews, and I can honestly say that Rocky and Adrian are part of the 9. When asking if they want a "cookie", they always run to the cabinet where I store the SmartBones® chews, instead of to where I keep the biscuit jar on the kitchen counter.

Rocky and Adrian give SmartBones® chews 2 paws up! You can find SmartBones® chews in 4 delicious varieties: Chicken, Peanut Butter, Sweet Potato, and Dental, and each are available in sizes mini to large so you can always find a chew that's right for your pup. Good, Clean Fun at Petco Grooming #PetcoGrooming #MM

This blog post is part of a paid Megan Media and #PetcoGrooming blogging program. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own.

Even though she's a girl, my boxer, Adrian, is quite gross. I chalk it up to her curious nature, but there are many times I wrinkle up my nose in disgust over some of the things she does. She likes scented things, and it doesn't matter if the scent is pleasant or not to humans. Once she hones in on an interesting scent, she wants it all over her body. She'll rub and roll on the offending object until she's good and covered. Or, see a stink bug? Why not eat it? Ewwww! You can imagine how that leaves her breath. The outdoors is her happy place because it offers an abundance of dirty places she can explore.

I don't know how many times I've said, "Adrian, get out of there!" or "Adrian, stop digging!" By the time we get indoors, she's a very happy, but very stinky and dirty girl. One who is definitely in need of a good washing! Even though she likes dirt and grime, Adrian is a girly girl at heart and loves a good bath. A little pampering is just what this girl needs after a day of roaming and digging in the yard, and when she needs a good scrubbing, we head to Petco Grooming for some TLC.

Adrian is always excited to visit Petco because she knows she's about to be pampered to the fullest. While the in-store grooming does take walk-ins for their wide range of รก la cart services, such as nail trimming, ear-cleaning, and teeth brushing, I do call ahead to schedule a full-service grooming package when it’s time for her to get the works.

Adrian loves the one-on-one attention she receives from the certified stylist, and I like that the grooming area is clean, well-maintained, and safe for my pet. Each grooming service begins with a 7-Point Pet Care Check: a visual and physical screening that checks for abnormalities in the pet's eyes, ears, teeth, nose, under-side, skin, coat, nails, and pads. Then, the grooming begins.

Our full-service grooming started off with a hair brushing. Since boxers shed a lot, our groomer took extra care to brush out those loose strands.

Up next was a much needed ear cleaning. Rubbing her head in the grass causes a lot of dirt to get caked in those ears! After they were good and clean, the groomer took her to the back for her bath and blow dry. While Adrian was getting her bath, I was able to walk around the store to keep myself occupied. The groomer came to find me in the store once the bath was complete so I could come back and watch the rest of the grooming procedure through the observation windows.

The full-service grooming package includes a haircut, but since boxers are a short haired breed, we skipped over any trims. In light of the 4th of July holiday, we splurged and added on some nail coloring. Red, white, and blue for extra patriotic flare!

We finished off the styling with some watermelon scented fur spritzer, then came home to show off to the rest of the family how Petco Grooming got Adrian all gussied up, fresh as a daisy and thinking twice before digging in the dirt and ruining that sweet manicure. Or so I like to think. Maybe she was plotting to get dirty again so she can head back to Petco Grooming for another round of pampering.

Think your pet would like a little TLC from certified Petco Stylists too? Petco Grooming is conveniently located in more than 1,200 locations, which offer a variety of bathing, hair-cutting, and spa service packages. Adrian gives Petco Grooming 2 paws up!

Want a chance to experience Petco Grooming for your pet? You're in luck! Petco is offering one lucky reader the chance to win a $50 Petco Gift Card! You have 2 chances to win. Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain Gets 2 Paws Up! #NutrishZeroGrain

I've featured my dogs here over the years, mostly just in photos. Today, I want to tell you a little more about them, and why we think they are such special members of our family.

Here's Adrian.

She's definitely the troublemaker of the pack, always looking to shove her nose where it doesn't belong. Counter surfing, seat stealing, squirrel chasing girl, but she always gives us such belly laughs it's easy to overlook her mischievous ways. Plus, she's a real sweetheart. Even when she knows she's waking us up, she always brings the gift of a toy to motivate us to get out of bed faster. She's highly intelligent, and sometimes I just watch in amazement as she problem solves. Her brain is always working overtime, it's probably why she's always into something she shouldn't be.

Up next, we have Rocky. A mama's boy through and through, he's a real tender heart! Just ask "Who wants a hug?" and he'll come running. He's an 85 pound lap dog that just wants to snuggle. He loves baths and getting his hair combed. I'm pretty sure he thinks he was born royalty.

And, then we have Wrigley, our 14 year old pug.

We adopted Wrigley 7 years ago through a rescue organization. In her early life, she was pretty much used to produce puppies. While she is the sweetest girl you'll ever meet, she did have some issues we had to work through. She didn't know what a dog treat was, and forget about toys. They weren't even on her radar. She was skittish at every noise, and would run for cover at the mere sound of the crinkling of a bag or a dropped pencil. It wasn't until we brought the boxers home that her spry self finally emerged. She now plays with toys, chases the bigger dogs, and even barks on occasion, something we didn't think she could do for the first 3 years we had her! She's now queen of the castle and has definitely become accustomed to living quite the spoiled life.

Each of our dogs are unique and special in their own way, and we do everything we can to ensure they are happy and healthy. One of the ways we do that is by feeding them high quality dog food, and right now they are loving Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain Beef with Bison dry dog food.

We were first attracted to Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain simply because it is grain free. Neither of the boxers can tolerate grains in their diet, so it sounded perfect to us. Made with real U.S. farm-raised beef, which happens to always be the first ingredient, and combined with wholesome vegetables and simple ingredients, it's a food that we feel good serving all 3 of our pooches. Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain also has:
  • Zero grains, glutens or fillers
  • Zero poultry by-product meal
  • Zero artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors
It's really everything we look for in the food we want to serve our pets.

Adrian approves!

I've long been a fan of Rachael Ray in the kitchen for humans, but her love and passion for animals has drawn me to her as a person as well. Rachael’s personal proceeds go to Rachael’s Rescue, a charity created to help shelter pets in need, and to date has donated over $9MM! That money has provided food, medical supplies and treatments for less fortunate animals. As a rescue mama, that kind of generosity really warms my heart.

Rachael Ray Nutrish is the first premium brand that is only available in grocers and mass retailers like Target, Walmart and Amazon. Not only does Nutrish offer premium dog food, there's also a premium cat food in the pet food line as well. Right now, you can save $3 off your purchase of Rachael Ray Nutrish Zero Grain pet food with this printable coupon!

This Bed Is Your Bed, This Bed Is My Bed....

Our dogs have pretty much free reign over the house. The only rule I have ever had was no dogs on the bed. We tried letting our little pug sleep with us a long time ago, and let's just say Bed. Hog! I wasn't willing to even try with the boxers. Allison decided to break this rule and let our female, Adrian sleep with her a few months back, and that's all it took. She now senses when it's about 9:00, and patiently waits for the door to open. And when it doesn't, she scratches and cries at the door waiting to have access to HER new bed. And when I say HER bed, I mean she really thinks it's her bed!

boxer sleeping

boxer bed

Look at her, laying center of the bed, giving off this "What? I'm being generous here! Allison still has a smidgen of bed left!" look. And now Allison has learned that when you break the rules, you deal with the consequences. Good luck trying to get your bed back now, kid!

Do you share the bed with your pets?
