I know I've shared quite a few fruit posts here lately, but my bestie Dezzy had a whole Facebook post about peaches last week and it really got me in the mood to have one last summer hurrah with the fruit. I thought about making a pie, but we're about to head into the sweets season, so I wasn't trying to rush that along quite yet. But, I did find this Peaches in White Wine with Basil recipe on Golden Blossom Honey and thought it would be a lovely, sophisticated after dinner dessert. Something that Jason and I could enjoy together in front of the fire pit now that the weather is nice enough to spend evenings outdoors.

This is one of those desserts that packs a big punch but is incredibly quick and simple to prepare. For maximum freshness, toss this recipe together before making dinner and it will be ready to eat as soon as you finish your meal. While this recipe doesn't need any additions, I thought about adding a bit of whipped cream topping before serving. In the end I left it as is, simply because my dogs are whipped cream addicts and I didn't have enough to share LOL! If you do end up making this dish, snap a pic on Instagram and let me know what you think (marison459). If you do add in whipped topping, really let me know if it's as good as I think it would be! I always enjoy hearing about different variations of easy recipes.

Ingredients

1/2 cup Riesling wine
1/4 cup fresh basil, silvered
4 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM RAW HONEY
4 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced 1/2-inch thick

  1. Looks nom! I'm happy you have peaches, ours are terrible this year, expensive and not sweet at all and difficult to find, fruit was really bad this summer in our markets for some reason, probably because of that hellish month of August with close to 50^C temps. I feel like I haven't really eaten my fill of fruit this year and September is already here.

    1. I heard overall that peaches were just not great anywhere this year. I lucked out I think and found the only decent ones in town. It's pear season now but I haven't bought any yet. I hope they aren't like the peach harvest in terms of health!

  3. This was the first summer I didn’t go get peaches at our favorite orchard. Just no time or motivation. I usually make a peach cobbler and a peach raspberry pie. Grocery store peaches suck here!

    1. I agree. Store peaches are terrible! There's a little farm stand we like to stop at close to some of the more popular Michigan beaches that always has good produce. I don't love buying fruits from the grocers because they always have fruit flies or they spoil almost before we even get home.

  4. As Dezmond said; like there, Fruits prices are so expensive here in this year either. Peaches are my favourite fruit and we havent made its jam yet. But this recipe you shared looks great.

  5. I had to laugh at your dog comment. Thor loves his puppuccino from Starbucks which is just whipped cream in a cup. LOL It's a "coming home from the vet" treat.. I haven't even ate a peach yet this year! It's funny b/c after Dez's post, I added them to the grocery list because he triggered a craving. Unfortunately, I didn't like the way they looked in the store.

Basil and peaches sounds like a very odd combo. I'd try it, but I can't even imagine what it would taste like!

    1. I swear, my dogs are whipped cream whores. They just KNOW when it's coming out of the fridge and do a Tom Cruise slide across the hardwood to get to it LOL. Allison likes to get them puppuccinos when she goes. They are so spoiled!

It is an odd combo, but strangely enough, it actually works. I expected to hate it, but ended up really enjoying it.

  8. I use them with mango and ginger in smoothies all the time. I hate when they go out of season!

    1. Same! If we find really sweet ones when they are in season, we freeze them for smoothies in the winter. If not, we end up buying frozen at the grocers, but it's really not the same.

  9. That's funny that the dogs have a sweet tooth. :) I like peaches and hurrah for the weather being nice enough to sit outside by the fire pit! Enjoy!
