BBQ Beans

How's that for luck that Independence Day falls on a Saturday this year and everything is still locked down? I'm super bummed that there won't be any cookouts to attend this year either. If the loud booms I've been hearing all week are any indication of the neighbor's firework haul, at least we won't be missing a show. I still placed an order for cookout foods for the three of us, so we can sit on our deck, watch the neighbor's fireworks, and pretend it was our choice to stay home this year. Barbecue Beans are a staple at every one of our back yard summer cookouts, but instead of making my granny's recipe this year, I decided to try something different and went with Golden Blossom Honey's version instead.

BBQ Beans

I'm going to admit that I really wanted to try this recipe because I bought a new press and chop gadget off of Amazon recently and really wanted to try it out. This recipe has a lot of ingredients that needed to be chopped, so I was finally able to really put it to the test. *Spoiler: It was amazing. If you want the link to the one I bought, shoot me an email and I'll lyk* Anyhow, as for the dish, what can I say but YUM!? This recipe is made on the stove top and not in the oven, so if you're looking at scorching temps like what we have right now, you'll be pleased that you can have a delicious bbq bean dish for your holiday celebrations without suffering with the oven on while you prepare this dish. That's reason enough to celebrate right there!

Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups chopped onion
1 red bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1 yellow bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup SILVER BLOSSOM HONEY
1/2 cup mesquite barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons instant coffee granules
1/2 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
1/3 cup fresh basil, chopped

  1. I'm guessing there will be no fireworks in America this year.

  3. That sounds yummy. My daughter and her family were supposed to come for a cook out today, but my grandson got sick. Not really anyone else we can invite due to Covid. We are having steak and shrimp kebabs With grilled veggies. Guess there will be a lot of leftovers.

    1. Leftovers usually make me really happy though. It means I get a day off from cooking LOL. Hope you still manage to have a nice 4th!

  5. The 4th really isn't a holiday for me. We don't do anything special for it.

  6. Great that your chopper chopped well. Nothing wrong with pretending it was your decision to stay home haha

    1. I don't even know where that pan came from. Probably a free gift from my mil for her casino visits LOL. But it is lovely. I need to use it more.

  9. I love bean dishes! We live on a mountain and we heard the fireworks from somewhere tonight and last night. The dogs did good. Well, Wiggy. She's the one that gets scared. She did real good tonight with whoever was blowing off the works.

    1. Good for Wiggy handling the fireworks well. My female was never bothered by them, but my male has been for years. I think he's losing his hearing because this year the booms didn't faze him a bit!

  10. A perfect dish for the 4th. I worked, but I can tell you Fresh Thyme sold a lot of cherries, watermelon, chicken and salmon (a big sale on that).

This week I have an interview on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Then I work too. It will be crazy. This is why blogging has kind of taken a backseat a bit.

    1. Good luck with your interviews! Blogging is taking a back seat here too. With getting the house in saleable condition and trying to get my Etsy shop ready to open before the holidays, blogging just isn't as important to me these days.

  12. This looks so yum! My son will eat any type of bean that he can get, which I'm thankful for because he doesn't really care for meat. We'll have to try this so that baby boy can get some protein. :)

  13. I also like nuts because they are healthy.
Thanks for the recipe given, Theresa. In my city there is one typical food recipe from the Dutch colonial heritage that is still popular with many people. The name of the soup 'Sup Senerek'.
