Sweet tea and peach pie, that's a staple in a southern girl's diet when summer rolls around. Yeah, I know I live in the Midwest now, but I'll always be a southern girl at heart. When the virus hit, Jason decided he'd be taking over grocery duties, so March was the last time that I had to make a grocery run. Last week I finally broke down and went to the store and let me tell you, I don't miss it LOL. However, I did miss browsing the produce section and went nuts stocking up on fresh peaches to use in this ah-mazing Peach Pie with Almond Streusel Topping recipe from Golden Blossom Honey.

Almond Streusel Peach Pie

Since the weather warmed up, I've been waffling between making a fruit crisp or a fruit pie, but with this streusel topping, it's like getting the best of both desserts all in one. If you opt to use a store bought pie shell, this is a very easy and quite quick to toss together recipe. I made my own pie crust, because you really can't beat a homemade crust, so it did take me a wee bit longer going that route. But no matter which option you take, you're gonna love this pie. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Then, grab some sweet tea and head out to the porch and enjoy basking in the summer sunshine.

Ingredients

Crust:
1 (9-inch) unbaked piecrust, found in the frozen section of your grocery store
1 egg yolk, beaten

Filling:
5-6 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced 1/2-inch thick
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Topping:
2 cups old-fashioned oats
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY

  2. Hooray for being back to shopping :) I've been to our big mall this week first time since December and was quite surprised that nobody wears masks any more, even my bus driver and my taxi driver did not have them, but we did not have any new corona cases in my city since a month or two ago.
It is still to early for peaches for me, but I do have first two raspberries on my bush, I think everything will be watery this year as we've been having constant daily downpours for two weeks now.

    1. A lot of people aren't wearing the masks here anymore either, but we still have new cases daily. A new spike is coming back around after our Memorial Day weekend and everyone was out visiting their friends.

Ugh to the rainy season. The up and down winter we had messed with my plants this year. The lilacs never bloomed on my trees, one of my blueberry bushes died, and my rose bush is struggling along. I wonder if it's going to pull through. Hopefully the rain has cleared up for you by now and you've seen a spike in your raspberry production.

  3. I love peach pie, but it has to be locally grown peaches that we can only get for 2 weeks in August. I have never bought a store peach that was any good. They are picked too early and never ripen or they are mush.

    1. I've never been peach picking, but I may put that on my list of things to do this summer. I bet fresh picked peaches are the best! Do you pick extra to freeze?

  4. High Five that you put your ice cream on the side! I hate it on top, makes it soggy, but I like a scoop alongside. The topping on this looks great. I love peaches.

    1. I agree. Ice cream must always go on the side, then I dip pie into it that way. Soggy pie is no fun!

  6. Really yum. I mean, how can you go wrong with desserts like these. Very fun. Tim has been doing most of the shopping too. Or he was. I got to go recently and it was SOOOOOO nice to walk through Aldi's produce. I loved it.

    1. Hurray for hubby's that did our shopping for us. But I agree. It is nice to walk through occasionally to check out the wares. I just don't want to do it weekly lol

  11. We would gobble this up, for sure. I just made a strawberry crisp. We had yogurt parfaits with it, for breakfast. Then I served it with ice cream once too.

    1. Strawberry Crisp sounds so good. I just picked up a large container of strawberries at the grocers and may have to make some this weekend now.
