Theresa's Mixed Nuts: Prom 2016

Prom 2016

Mariah's Junior Prom was last Friday. I never went to my own prom, so I was nervous about how it would all come together. Mariah is a no frills kind of girl. She doesn't wear dresses, jewelry or makeup, and when you throw in a dressy event like prom, you can probably understand my concern for how it was all going to go down. We had a few snags with dress shopping, shoe shopping, and then I almost had a meltdown when she decided that she wasn't going to make a hair appointment, trying to opt going natural. For every day wear, natural hair is fine. When you go to an event like prom, you at least attempt a hairstyle to compliment your formal attire. Thank God my best friend is a whiz with the curling iron and Mariah agreed to let her style her hair. In the end, she loved her look, and seeing the look on her boyfriend's face as he walked in the door was priceless. I did get my way with making them take a few photos before they went to dinner. Here are a few of my favorites...

Did you go to prom? What was the most memorable part of the event for you?

  2. I never went to prom. I was never very social, car-less, and a coward when it came to girls. My wife never got to go either. One day we'll go to one of these retro prom events for old people who never got to go.

    1. I keep thinking I want to do that some day too since I missed prom. It does sound like a lot of fun for us old folk ;)

  3. Oh my goodness they are such a great looking couple! You got some great photos! I love her dress!

I went to a few dances. I think 1 homecoming and 1 prom. I went out with a guy for 2 1/2 years during that time. We went to different schools. Formals were hard because he didn't know people at my school, and visa versa.

    1. I imagine it must have been a bit awkward trying to fit into a group of kids you don't know at one of those kinds of social events. It's nice that you both put forth the effort for each other though!

  4. They sure look like they are having a great time together. I only went to the last one by myself just to see what the fuss was about. Bunch of people sitting around talking with drunk nuts thrown in, whoopeee lol

    1. Yeah, when the drunks came in, she decided it was time to go home. Ended up leaving an hour early because the losers had to come in and ruin it.

  5. twas a lovely dress and lovely photos too! Did they have a nice time? I'm surprised she didn't slick his hair back with some hairgel for a glamorous look :)

    1. She did have a nice time, but came home an hour early when some of the kids decided to break out the alcohol and act like fools.

Slicked back hair would have been nice, but apparently the shaggy do is what he prefers, even for formal wear. I am taking photos of my best friend's son this weekend for his prom and his girlfriend has his style on lock down, demanding his hair get cut the day before prom. No shag will be going on for her prom lol

    2. I think I like best the photo in which Shaggy is laughing on her shoulder, looks like the cutest of moments.

    3. I like that one too because that really shows his personality. He finds humor in a lot of things and is always laughing. Even with me and my bestie bossing him around for poses, he still managed to crack up here.

  7. Beautiful photos, she looks lovely in her dress! I loved my prom mostly because of the fun I had with my girlfriends. All our dates turned out to be duds so we spent the night together celebrating graduation and we're all still friends almost ten years later!

I asked a guy to prom and he sort of rejected me. I was devastated. Now - thank goodness I didn't go. =)

  19. I don't even remember my prom much because it was so many years ago. My daughter was like that, she was still a "tomboy" so we had a hard time figuring out what she was going to wear. She got an amazing dress however and the night went smoothly. Mariah looked amazing!
