I had to repot my aloe plant a few weeks ago because it was getting too big for its old container. I didn't have any soil on hand at the time, so I bought a cheap bag from the hardware store so I could hurry up and get the job done. Fast forward a few weeks... I went to water said aloe plant and noticed a weird, leggy looking stem growing in the pot along side it. I immediately get agitated, telling myself that's what I get for buying the cheap bag of soil, and pull the stem from the pot. I mean, who has time to weed indoor plants? Then, the scent hits me and I'm like "I recognize this scent. This is a tomato plant!" Just to confirm though, I pull up my plant identifying app and indeed, it said it was a tomato plant. What kind though is anybody's guess. Will it be little cherry tomatoes, beefsteak, roma? I don't know, but I planted it out in my garden with the other tomatoes and will keep an eye on it to see if it thrives and produces any fruit in a few weeks. The suspense will kill me before then, surely. I honestly feel like this is more of a post for the Dull Men's Club Facebook group, getting excited over the possibility of a free tomato plant! Almost like the suspense of getting a prize inside of the Crack Jack Box. Y'all, if this doesn't confirm that I have no life, I'm not sure what would LOL. With having tomatoes on the brain and in anticipation of my freebie plant blooming, I decided to lean towards this
Zucchini with Tomatoes recipe from Golden Blossom Honey for this week's honey post share.

This is a recipe that makes for a great summertime side dish, but it's also one that I would eat as a full meal on its own. It highlights some of summer's best produce- juicy tomatoes, zucchini, and basil plucked fresh from the garden. It's perfect for picnics, potlucks, or for a warm day lunch option when you need something light and refreshing to eat. My garden always produces more tomatoes and zucchini than I know what to do with, so if yours is the same, this is going to be the recipe you're going to want to turn to time and again for the next several months. And if you're also like me and share your excess bounty, print it out and include it with any gift baskets so your recipients can enjoy this dish as well.

Have you ever found a surprise plant in your yard or planters?
Wish I had tomatoes in my garden, the bought ones are so nasty. We used to get a few surprise celeries among carrots and parsleys in the old house where we had big plots of land under veggies. Also sometimes a yellow tomato would pop up amongst the red ones.
ReplyDeleteSome of the store bought ones we've had lately taste like chlorine pool water. So freaking gross! I am so happy to be able to garden again finally!
DeleteWhat in the world? My husband buys bags and bags of potting soil every year and no surprises. That’s crazy! However, we did have a tomato plant grow in our front mulch, under a window. I assume a seed was transferred via chipmunk or something from our garden in the back.
ReplyDeleteI have a single tulip that comes up every year. I think some critter probably dug it up from a neighbor then buried it in our yard. So weird!
DeleteWhat a coincidence! I'm about to make a cucumber salad today. I'll definitely take some inspiration from your zucchini!
ReplyDeleteHope yours was tasty!
DeleteMore healthy than what's in the cracker jack box too.
ReplyDeleteHere i thought you had a life though as you travel here there and everywhere.
Good idea to give recipe when you dish out your spoils too.
No since starting my business. My office walls are about all I see anymore.
DeleteThat's so funny that a tomato plant showed up out of the blue. It wanted to be featured in one of your awesome recipe posts!! Aloe is a miracle plant, through and through. Love that stuff, and hurrah that yours is thriving.
ReplyDeleteIt's flowering now, so I can't wait to see what it produces. It will definitely make an appearance here once it fruits!
DeleteGracias por la receta. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome :)
DeleteMy daughter has a little garden in front of our door. She planted cilantro years ago and it came back again last year and she hadn't planted it for a long time. This looks good.
ReplyDeleteI love perennial herbs. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
DeleteYummy.

Thank you!
DeleteMy husband has a strong dislike for tomatoes so this would not be something I could make.
ReplyDeleteThat's unfortunate, but we all have our likes and dislikes, huh?
DeleteThat's interesting and cool a tomato plant grew from the soil! Also, the zucchini tomato dish looks delicious and sounds easy to make!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karalee!
