ThunderWorks Offers the Gift of Relaxation

It's no secret that my dogs are my babies. I don't play favorites with my kids, but I'll be the first to admit that I do have a favorite dog, and that's my male boxer, Rocky. Maybe it's because other than Jason, we are a house full of girls (he's my baby boy!) or because he's a mama's boy that I tend to gravitate towards him the most.

Boxer

When people are meeting him for the first time, they tend to shy away. He's a solid 90 pounds and that makes people put their guard up. Yes, he's a big boy, but once you get to know him, you realize he's the biggest softie in the world. In his mind, he's small enough to be a lap dog, always wants to snuggle, and get will jump for joy (literally JUMP! for joy) when presented with the opportunity to go for a car ride or a run outside. He's got a zest for the good things in life and won't waste a minute expressing his enthusiasm for affection or play. Looks can be deceiving with my boy though. While most days he's very energetic, he does tend to suffer from separation anxiety and is terrified of loud noises.

There was something going around Facebook a few months back that said dogs really hate to be hugged because it stresses them out. I'm calling BS on that story. If I sit on the floor and say "Who wants a hug?" Rocky will immediately come running over, plop down in my lap, and practically beg to be squeezed into a big hug. I'm thinking that dogs with anxiety like mine actually prefer the feeling of being embraced tightly, and since I can't be available to give hugs all day long, I love being able to wrap my dog into his ThunderShirt

ThunderShirt

Boxer ThunderShirt

The ThunderShirt helps to sooth my dog's anxiety by its constant gentle pressure. It works much like swaddling an infant. Simply wrap it around your dog, strap it in place, and your dog feels snug and secure.

We're past the fireworks stage, which is always a nightmare for us, but we're heading back into the thunderstorm season which always stresses Rocky out. At the first sound of thunder rumble, he'll hide under my bed and shake so hard until the storm passes, it sometimes feels like his shakes are causing an earthquake to go along with the thunderstorm. But, now that he's got his ThunderShirt, the anxiety has seemed to calm down drastically during the storms.

Boxer ThunderShirt

There are over 32 million houses in the US that have a pet that struggles with some form of anxiety (thunderstorms, fireworks, separation, exposure to new people or animals, etc) and it is estimated that owners have had to replace $710 million dollars worth of damage done to household items due to the destruction pets caused by their anxiety issues. ThunderShirt has become a household name in the wearable pet anxiety category, but now they have new product offerings that include various other drug-free anxiety solutions for both dogs and cats. From diffuser kits to calming sprays, there are several great options to choose from to help your dog feel less stressed and more secure.

It's never too early to start thinking about holiday shopping, and there's no better gift than giving the gift of relaxation to your pets. My Rocky adores his ThunderShirt and rests easier feeling snug and secure when mom can't be around to hold him all day.

  1. Never knew it actually worked, I've seen it before though. Good it can help him with the anxiety. If he gets separation anxiety, what does he do when you go away on trips?

    1. It works quite well for our dog. ThunderWorks states that 80% of pet owners see a difference when you use their anti-anxiety products, so I guess a lot of people see results. I'm glad we do!

  2. I've never heard of something like this, very very interesting, I wonder how it was originally invented, never would have thought that the pressure can copy the effect of a hug in this way.
Who took care of the dogs while you were away?
Was Rocky's face always grey or is he getting old? :)

    1. We take the dogs to a sweet little old lady who runs a boarding facility here. She's awesome and spends time with them. She'll also crate Rocky with his boxer sister (not the little pug though) so he's not alone.
He used to have a black face, but he's 6 now (almost considered a senior) and it's graying quickly. It's weird though that his sister (litter mate) has almost no gray. Maybe male dogs just age quicker than the females?

    2. I think my hair, or what is left of it, is also turning grey, but I wouldn't really know since I shave it of every Sunday :) And my beard has always been multicoloured LOL so I don't know, but I think it really is getting grey. I have a male friend who turned grey when he was about 20something.

    3. Jason shaves his off every Sunday too lol. I have noticed gray strands in his beard for the past few years. He also get this one thick gray that grows out of his ear that I have pluck out for him once a month or so. The joys of growing old :)

    4. hope you don't pluck his hair from nose too, that hurts, you know :) I had two little shavers for nose hair and they broke after I used them maybe two times. That is why I always say us men get into menopause earlier than you ladies :) For us it starts after the 30th birthday and you then get bigger belly, hair falls from the head, hair starts sprouting from your ears and nose, muscles start dying on you if you ever had them :) and then your nose and ears start growing too and you usually lose all fat on your face and your jaw becomes more bony. And then you're no longer sexy to your wify and you have to find a lovah... oy, it ain't easy :)

    5. Jason has a nose trimmer. I don't think I'd get anywhere near his nose though lol. I don't know what you're going on about. You men age so much better than most of us ladies. We have to fight the wrinkles cause they don't look good on us, dye our hair, join a gym. Sigh. It's just never ending fighting the signs of aging.

  3. We have a thunder jacket for our dog and it really does seem to make a difference to her, her big issue is fireworks, though she is going deaf now so she doesn't really hear them anymore.

  4. I need to get one of these for both of my dogs. They are generally even keeled guys, but they need a little help when it comes to fireworks and thunderstorms.

  6. I have two shih tzus and one is deathly anxious when it thunders like today here! I would love to try this out because holding him, petting him and swaddling him has not helped.

  7. I know my dog hated fireworks with a passion

  8. This sounds awesome! We had a dog tear apart a door over thunder once because she was scared and we weren't home.

  9. My dog now doesn't have anxiety but my older dog had a Thundershirt for thunderstorms. He was okay for everything else except thunderstorms. They do work, I am so glad that they have something for dogs with anxiety.

  10. My daughter has two dogs and they have anxiety. I would buy two of these in a hearteat for them.

  11. Well I don't have pets unless you count children. Ha! Thunderstorms make them worried. Mica would jump over his own shadow. A piece of plastic was on the ground. It moved, and he jumped. So odd!

Your dog is so cute! I wish I could have one!

  12. Thundershirts are such a great idea for nervous puppies and dogs. I know a lot of pet owners who swear by them.

  13. My dog goes underneath my bed when he hears thunderstorms. Sometimes we don't even hear it, but he can

  14. I've heard of these wraps. I don't have a dog but back in the day when I did, this would have been worth its weight in gold.

  15. I've always thought these Thunderworks wraps were a brilliant idea. Fireworks aren't the only time of year that dogs need them and I'm glad you posted this outside of that time so people can see that!

  16. There is just something about boxers...I had a brother and sister. The brother passed a few years ago and the sister passed earlier this year. They were jumpers and always wanted to be hugged too. I still have my pug mix and she sometimes has issues with storms, it seems to have gotten worse since her boxer sister has passed. I have been hearing about these thunder shirts for a while and have debated on getting one for her. Now, I just might have to check it out.

    1. Chrystal, I have a brother and sister boxer too. We did have a pug, but she passed away last month. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet boxers :( They truly are one of the best breeds.

  17. What a cute pup! I haven't had a dog with anxiety, so I had no idea the extent of stress or damage caused. Thunderworks sounds like such an easy fix to a big problem.

  18. My Riley tends to have issues with anxiety as well and it would be nice to find a product that will help him cope! I just love this one! It's awesome!

  20. Looks like a great product to help our dogs with anxiety. I was just wondering about the material? Is it breathable fabric? Our dog is a shih tzu and dogs with short snouts have breathing issues especially during the hot weather. I will have to check this out anyway. Our dog gets separation anxiety when I have to leave him with my sister when we're out on vacation.

  22. My cats all have different anxiety triggers. I have a Rocky too...he's our only boy cat. :) He is terrified of storms, fireworks, and strangers - we usually know well in advance when one is on the way by the way he slinks across the floor to find a hiding spot - even with the sun shining and clear blue sky. Our cat, Jezebel, isn't phased by much...she has always been an indoor/outdoor cat until recently - she is now a full-time indoor cat, and that has truly made her anxious. She likes her freedom - but circumstances are what they are, and we want to keep her safe. Tabby, our oldest cat, gets anxious when she's left along too long - she loves a lap...any lap. BUT don't even try to put your face down to hers for a kiss...she will pop your face. She does NOT like anyone's face in hers. Last is Luna - she's our newest addition to the family, and my son is her anxiety trigger. He wants to hold her and love on her all the time...and she doesn't want him to. She's still getting used to our family, so she only wants attention on her terms. My son just doesn't get it - lol...he means well, but when we hear a hiss and squeaking meow, we automatically yell from our location in the house for him to put her down and leave her alone.

    1. I shouldn't laugh, but cats popping someone on the head always makes me chuckle. My in-laws took in a stray cat that hated my husband. It was also a cat that like affection, but only on his terms. My husband tried so hard to get that cat to love him, but ended up with more scrapes and bites than kisses lol

    2. Oh - I totally get laughing at the cats head/face pops...it's really funny! :) One night she was lying on my chest, and my husband leaned over to give me a good night kiss, and she popped him right on the cheek...he was too close to her. LOL! It was hilarious. His face was priceless!!!

  24. I think I may have heard of this or something like it. If it works, it's brilliant. I remember our dogs getting so worked up when thunderstorms would come when I was a little girl.
