Day After Thanksgiving Traditions

Ok, show of hands! How many of you crazy cats went out this morning for some Black Friday shopping? I thought about it. Seriously thought about it. But, I have realized that as I get older, I value my sleep a little more than saving money. I admit though, I was one of those jerks who went shopping on Thanksgiving Day. I ended up going to Michael's for some much needed Christmas craft supplies. My husband and daughter tagged along just to see the lines at Best Buy and Toys R Us, which Allison found the people with their fire pits and tents quite amusing.

I think the day after Thanksgiving is one of my favorites of the year. It's the kick off to the Christmas season, so we always spend the day decorating the house and tree. This also starts our family nights of holiday movie watching. Don't you just love holiday movies? The lights will be turned on outside, Christmas music will flow through the house, we will start on our handmade gifts for the year, and our Elf on the Shelf returns. The girls have their own little trees they keep in their rooms and were so excited, they ended up putting them up after Thanksgiving dinner.

While my next month is super busy, I am looking forward to every minute of it!

Do you have any day after Thanksgiving traditions? If you went shopping, did you get what you went after?

  1. I like to put up the tree, but since we get a real one (I think I have lost the battle to get an artificial one this year), we have to wait so it doesn't get too dry by the time Christmas rolls around (boo).

Today's the day I start getting excited about Christmas. :)

    1. My husband has been fighting for a real tree for years, but I won't budge. My grandpa was a fire fighter and Christmas was always his busy time of the year. You wouldn't believe how many people set their trees on fire with the hot lights because they don't water them (something I would most likely do too!) I am so terrified my house would go up in flames. I do love a real tree though. They look so much better and make the house smell more Christmasy!

  2. Well, since I'm in Canada, we had our Thanksgiving much earlier, so it would have been WAY too early to put up decorations...hehehe. But I did put up our tree this week :) I can't be bothered to do Black Friday shopping, unless it's online. I, too, value my sleep WAY too much now lol. LOVE the girl's trees!! The kids have a tree in the basement that is all theirs to decorate :)

    1. Online Black Friday shopping is so the way to go, though Jason ended up going to bed mad that he missed out on one of Amazon's lighting deals. I had to tell him to get over it lol.

I love that you let the kids have a tree to themselves also. It's something we started for them 4 years ago, and I think they like decorating theirs more than the family tree!

  3. I LOVE that pink tree!!!!

I don't to black Friday at all, but we are decorating our house this weekend. I think it's supposed to rain here in Mass tomorrow, so I think we're going to wait till Sunday to get it (we get a real one). Our Elf on the Shelf will make his long awaited appearance on December 1st. I am not creative enough to think of new places to stick him for many more than 24 nights LMAO!!

    1. Whoops, I woke up and FORGOT the ELF! My 8 year old told me she popped out of bed because she knew he was coming today too. Chalk that up to a bad mommy moment I guess lol. I have been scouring Pinterest for ideas, but I am starting to think I am going to have Elf burnout before Christmas arrives!

    1. I agree! And it's not just in the stores, the drivers rushing to get to the stores scare me too!

  5. I love both trees, but pink one is histerically awesome :D I used to handle christmas decoration and putting up the tree back then when I was still working in a hotel. Although I don't celebrate christmas I like the festivity, the joy and the party. Decorating for christmas and New Years are my favorite things to do every year!

  8. I love the trees in their rooms! We have started off our holiday season by blasting tiles off the boys' bathroom. It is way overdue for a remodel, and what better season than the busiest of the year to start? ;) Glad we can get it done, anyway. We'll get our tree in a week or so. Merry Christmas!

  10. Shame on you for shopping on Thanksgiving! LOL just kidding! I was out late Wednesday night shopping...and I still had to send my hubby back out to the store the next day for something I forgot! I love Christmas time...but I'd love it more if hubby didn't work in retail. We are decorating later today =)

  11. Our family (all 7 of us) get together for Thanksgiving and eat to much and then take a nap. We look at all the ads online and I try to see what there is that we might want to get and can we get it online.

There was a laptop I wanted, but because I like my sleep, we didn't get it (lol).

We also try to find things at local small businesses and craft shows to support our local community.

  16. Their little trees are so fun! I put one in Mica's room once. It's hard because we just don't have a lot of room. Maybe when they are older and loose some of the toys.

    1. Oh yes, I know the lack of room because of too many toys problem all too well. We weeded out a lot of toys the week before in preparation :)
