Charming Venice Beach Canals

I know. I've been terrible on keeping up with my travel posts. I do a much better job of posting travel snippets on Instagram, so make sure you're following me over there for a first hand look. And don't forget to check out my stories where I share other snaps and moments you won't find here or on other social media channels.

I'd have to say that my favorite stop in California was walking through the Venice Beach Canals.

Venice Beach Canals

I have always wanted to go to Venice, so it was kind of neat to see Venice Beach do their own little take on the famous canals in Italy. A whole neighborhood was dedicated to row after row of these charming canals, and it was fun to stroll along the pathways and over the bridges that had European influence with a California vibe.

While both sides of the canals are lined with sidewalks to make it easy to navigate the area, I think all of the homeowners also had their own boats or kayaks to cruise the waterways for pleasure. We saw a few people paddle boarding through them as well, and that looked like a lot of fun too!

As pretty as the canals were to look at, I think it was equally fun to admire the houses that lined them as well. I'll admit, I was walking through trying to decide which of houses I could fancy myself retiring in. Seriously, who wouldn't want to live in one of these beauties:

Apparently I am not the only one who was having dreams of relocating to the area. This homeowner had a little sign up letting people know that their home is not for sale. I'd be lying if my green eyed monster wasn't popping it's ugly head out on our stroll, but one can't stay bitter surrounded by such beauty.

Now that I've got a taste of the mock canals, I can't wait to get to Italy to see the real Venice canals! If you're headed out to Cali, make sure you carve out a little time for a leisurely stroll here. We were pressed for time and only got through about 1/4 of the area, but I'd love to go back some day to explore the whole area.

Would you like to visit the Venice Beach Canals or even the real Venice Canals some day? Have you already?

  1. What gorgeous photos! Especially the first one! It is lovely to look at and spend some time there, but I'm not sure I'd like to live that close to water permanently!

    1. If I can't retire on the water, I'm going to be one sore lady. I've got Jason actively searching for houses on the coast even though we are a few years off from making that leap.

  2. That sure looks like a great spot. Some nice houses too. I'd sure stroll through there, but living near water, nah. For one it jacks up the price big time on real estate and for two, flooding. No thanks.

    1. I do agree about the flooding. Our city had their own mini flood crisis last month when the snow rapidly melted. As for the area, Venice Beach is a dirty little tourist town, but the canals were in pristine shape. Very clean and pleasant to walk through.

    1. I had no idea either until my husband said we had to make a stop there. Glad he knew about it because we never would have seen it otherwise.

  13. I would LOVE to live there. Being born and raised in the city (and still living in one) gives me a great longing to move out into the quiet suburbs, even out in the country away from all the noise and pollution. This place is perfect! It looks so clean and beautiful. What an idyllic place to live in!

  15. I'm reminded of our visit to Fort Lauderdale when we walked along the canal. It was awesome and the weather was perfect, and I was reminded how much I like being near water...when there aren't mosquitoes involved. ;)
