There's Always Room for Praline Pie

Stick with me guys. I have a lot of great Thanksgiving recipes coming from Golden Blossom Honey this month that I can't wait to share with you. This week I thought I'd try my hand at their Praline Pie recipe.

Praline Pie

You all know I am a southern girl at heart and there is nothing we like more than pralines. Normally I like to have pecan pie for Thanksgiving dessert, but this year we are swapping it out for the praline pie. It's very similar to pecan pie, but isn't filled with corn syrup, so you don't get that goopy middle. Now, I am a huge fan of a goopy gooey pecan pie center, but I've had people tell me that they don't like it (what!?!) For those that don't, this pie is for you.

Praline Pie

The only thing that I would change about this recipe is the addition of the rum. I am very sensitive to alcohol and think it can be overpowering in desserts. Next time I make this, I'll swap out the rum for apple juice to add in a little more sweetness. But, if you like rum, by all means, leave the recipe as is.

Ingredients
1 9-inch pre-baked pie shell
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2/3 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
4 eggs
2 Tablespoons rum
1 cup broken pecans or 8 pecan halves

Praline Pie

Here's something new for you this week. I am always fascinated with those Facebook food videos, so I decided I'd try my hand at creating one. My gosh, a lot of work goes into them! I'm testing the waters to see if it's something I'd like to continue doing so I'm not going to put them here each week. The lighting was all off and I was tossing things around willy nilly without a game plan in mind, but if I can eventually get the hang of it, I'll invest in the right equipment to bring better videos to you in the future. It took me ages to figure out how to work my camera and Photoshop, and I think with a little practice and patience I'll get better with food videos. If not, at least I can say I tried. Remember, it's attempt #1, so be kind ;)

If you love pralines as much as I do, be sure to grab my Praline Sauce recipe too. It's great for fruit dipping, pie and cheesecake topping, or eat it straight from the jar. I do when nobody is looking.

Look for this recipe and many more on Golden Blossom Honey's Recipe Page.

If you like this recipe, be sure to come back every Friday, where I feature a new recipe from Golden Blossom Honey!

How many different pies do you serve for Thanksgiving?

Meanhow, I'm still waiting for you to use one of them Dezzy's decorations on your pies :PPP
OMG OMG lady you just did your first video! I smell YouTube's next cooking sensation :) Twas lovely! You just need to add some lettering and instructions in it, but I've no idea how that is done!

    1. You and Jason can be rum buddies. I never cared for it myself, but then again, I'm not a drinker so most alcohol doesn't sit well with me.

I couldn't figure out the lettering part of videos either, but kinda got the hang of it towards the end of piecing it together. If I do another one, I'll spend more time on working through the captions.

I was just thinking that I still need to do your pie crusts. Been meaning to do it all month long, but you know how life gets. Plus, Jason is back to working out and eating right and gets mad at me when I make tempting treats he can't resist, so pie has been on the back burner. We did buy an ice cream maker this week though. Granted, Jason bought it to make Dole Whips with because they are low in calories and fat free, but you know me. Eventually, I am going to find the fattiest, unhealthiest recipe to make in it ;)

    2. I love rum in everything, especially with chocolate and in truffles. You don't have rum sugar there? We get little satchels of vanilla, caramel, cinnamon and rum sugar from Dr. Oetker, which is the leading producer of baking things here in Europe, it is alcohol free.

I love Lorraine Pascale's videos and shows, in her videos the written ingredients pour over the screen together with the ingredients itself, it is so cute and her lightening and editing is amazing as well, very luxurious and warm. She and Rudolf van Veen are my fave bakers.

Hooray for the ice cream maker! Does it take hours to make?

    3. I am not sure if we have rum sugar or not. Probably in one of the specialty stores. Then again, maybe every store has it, but it's just not on my radar since it's not something that I use.

I'll have to look up Lorraine Pascale. Just what I need. A new food video addiction ;)

Our machine said it would take 20 to 40 minutes to make a Dole Whip. It did take about 30. At some point I will use it to make real ice cream, but probably not until Jason stops counting calories in every damn thing he consumes.

    4. well you can make him fruit icecream without milk, just with water and sugar or honey :) Although, it's weird making icecream in winter.

  3. Rum you say? Used to go for that in university at my bay haha sure it would add a little extra kick. Yep, youtube videos are a pain in the butt, they take way more work than one would suspect a short video to.

    1. We haven't seen any of your videos lately, Pat and after putting this one together, I know why. I probably have 5 hours in that 1.5 minute clip. It's way too time consuming, that's for sure!

  4. This pie looks delicious! I'm sure the addition of the Golden Blossom honey makes for a flavorful pie. I've baked a banana bread using honey as my sweetener. It has such a nice flavor.

    1. And it makes it so moist too! I love replacing sugar with honey in my baked goods because it does give it a nice flavor.

  5. I haven't ever tried Praline Pie. I love that it's similar to Pecan Pie (which I love). I might try it. Definitely a fun twist. You did a great job on the video!

Woohoo!!! Just looking at this pie I can feel them piling back on. Haha! :) I haven't had a chance to see the video but I'm sure it's great - we all have to take that first step at learning something new. ;)

  10. We'll probably have two or three pies for everyone on Thanksgiving. This would be a good alternative to the usual pecan pie!
