Theresa's Mixed Nuts: Elf on the Shelf Summer Care Package

Elf on the Shelf Summer Care Package

After Christmas last year, I found this Elf on the Shelf blanket on clearance. Since Allison always gets bummed when her elf leaves on Christmas, Jason suggested that it might be fun for him to mail her a little care package during the summer. Since I am a mom who will drag out the make believe world with my kids for as long as possible, I was so on board with that idea!

A few weeks ago, I boxed up the blanket for Allison, put in a winter puzzle for Mariah, then added in some Christmas candies. Sealed it up, topped it with red and green glitter, and left it on the front porch for them to find in the morning.

Allison couldn't contain her excitement over the mystery package on the porch, and immediately tore into it!

Her Christmas spirit is back in full swing, and she is eagerly awaiting his return this year. It was a fun little idea that lifted their spirits on an otherwise boring, summer day.

Do you like the idea of Elf on the Shelf, or are you so over the novelty of it by now?

  1. I'm totally over it, but my kids still love it, so I will keep it up. Actually, I am pretty sure that my oldest doesn't believe anymore, but he's playing along. My little guy still has a couple of years, though!

  3. We don't do Elf on the Shelf at our house. When Elliott first heard about elf on a shelf he said it was weird and implied it was creepy. He's not fond of the idea of Santa watching him sleep either. When he was four or five he told me that anyone who watched him sleep should be willing to wake him up and talk to him.

  10. You're such a good mom! I don't even do Elf on the Shelf during the winter because it's enough for me to keep up with laundry. ;)

  11. To me the whole Elf on a Shelf thing is sort of like a Christmas traveling garden gnome. You know, you take the elf and put it in all sorts of ridiculous places and situations and take photos and send them to people, or post them to Facebook or Instagram or something.

  13. What a great Elf! Our Elf has never done anything like that! I think Ryan (10) is on to the Elf by now, but still would play along if it meant a fun care package over the summer. :)

  18. That sounds like such a fun idea :) I'm the type of person who listens to Christmas music all year round, and will keep decorations up all year round if permitted.

  19. We never did Elf on the Shelf. My kiddo isn't into that sort of thing, and if I did try, he would never let me put it away. He plays with all his Christmas stuffed animals all year long.
