Theresa's Mixed Nuts: Most Expensive Lunch Ever!

Most Expensive Lunch Ever!

Allison asked me to join her at lunch at school. I've done this on several occasions, but I always either pack my own or pick us up fast food on the way in. This time I decided to purchase a school cafeteria lunch, then about choked when I had to pay $3 for it!

That's about 1 cup of salad and a few saltines, and a tiny container of chocolate milk. I'm still sitting here scratching my head trying to figure out why this lunch was so expensive, because it certainly wasn't filling! No wonder Allison scarfs down a boatload of food when she comes home from school! I ended up stopping for a real lunch on my way home.

Have you eaten a school lunch lately? If so, how much was yours?

  1. Hold on, you get to go into her school for lunch?? I am SO jealous right now.

But $3 is outrageous. Our school lunches are $2.50, but since we don't get to go in for lunch, I have no idea how big the portions actually are.

    1. Our school is all about parent involvement. They expect each of us to come in for at least 3 hours throughout the year to spend time with the kids, helping out at functions, ect. I just count coming in for lunch part of those 3 hours lol.

  2. Looks delicious but a limited amount of food for sure Theresa. When I was in school I mainly had 2 patties and a drink for lunch. There were times when I carried lunch to school but it was usually a light lunch. If I converted the cost of the lunch above it it would be over J$300.

  3. Nope, most schools in my country don't have cafeterias and kids have to bring their sandwiches or they buy something in shops :(

  5. That's a rip off! How are the kids to function sanely? Sucks :(

  6. Their salad doesn't even look that great. They probably use iceberg lettuce which has no nutritional value.

  8. Man alive! That is so not $3 worth of food. Next time bring in the lunch for both of ya, huh? Morning dear friend, thanks for the compliments on my tutorial pics! (meant so much to me) Too bad BL at Target was a nightmare. A lady got hurt here when a palette of I-pads was opened at Walmart and many just stepped on her getting their 'thing'. Man, animals at the time of 'peace on earth - good will toward men'. Man! Hope you have an awesome day, gf!!!

  9. I haven't. It drives me nuts that they consider a potato a veggie. It's a carb.

Mica had cold lunches all throughout Kindergarten. He must of felt insecure about the hot lunches. Then in 1st grade he never wanted cold lunch.

I was expecting Isaak to want cold lunch all the time like Mica did. Nope! Now they are both eating that expensive stuff. I have no clue what they choose to consume, or not.

  10. How was the salad? It doesn't look at all appealing.
School lunches stink, if there isn't a good person in charge. In my elementary school, we enjoyed great lunches only for a little while - there was a new head 'chef' at the school, but she moved on and we were back to lots of saltines.

  14. as a matter of fact, I have! I ate lunch at my daughter's school and it was horrifying in price and in taste. I had a hamburger, it was tiny, it was tasteless, and it was $4.75! So I thought your lunch was cheap compared to what I paid...haha. I can't believe that the lunch is supposed to be healthy...like you, I choked, so I could have died, therefore, it's not healthy at all. :-) haha

  15. In Florida we were allowed to do that, and if the parent came in, the student got to pick two friends to take outside to eat with them. I always bought them ice cream at the end. My boys' school was 15 min. from where I worked so I got to do it every now and then. It was nice. :) I don't remember the cost of food...maybe I didn't even buy food? I can't remember, it's been awhile.

  16. My kids always took their lunches as we didn't have a cafeteria. It would have been nice some days as my son had a habit of forgetting his lunch. But 3 bucks a day for each kid could really add up....yikes! and Yuck lol

  17. I've never eaten the food at my son's school. I usually just sit with them and and talk to the kids and eat at home, instead of actually eating at the school. Elliott usually takes his lunch from home, but a few times a month he eats the school lunch and ALWAYS comes home hungry, plus eats a snack from home, plus a snack from school on those days. Lunches are $1.85 for kids at his school, but I don't think they are even worth that.
