Jolly Rancher Cupcake Toppers

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July! This was the first year we decided to do a low key holiday. No parties, no cook outs, just relaxing at home with the family. That didn't stop us from making a few festive treats though! We ended up making some red, white, and blue cupcakes, then topped them with some star shaped Jolly Rancher candies.

They were very simple to do. Start with some red and blue Jolly Ranchers hard candies.

Prepare some star shaped mini cookie cutters, (I used fondant cutters) by placing them on waxed paper, then spray with cooking spray.

Unwrap 2 candies, then place them in a microwave safe cup. (We used a paper bathroom cup). Heat on full power for about 30 seconds, or until candies are completely melted. Immediately pour into cutters.

Let cool in cutters until they start to harden again, but not completely, about a minute. Gently press candy out of mold, then immediately insert a toothpick through the center.

Allow the candies to finish hardening completely, then insert into a cupcake.

You could change this up using different colors and cutters, and make them for other holiday's too!

We bbq'd at home, but not until late in the day. It was still nice though. :)

  10. They look like so much fun to do. Our fourth of July was very low key...it was getting over jet lag. Sleeping when people are awake and awake when people are sleeping. Thanks for stopping by. Love seeing your comments.

  11. This is very cool. I could see doing this trick on any holiday, ie. little orange pumpkins or purple turkeys. Thanks for the idea. I'll have to try it sometime.

  19. They are so cute! I haven't even thought about the 4th. With just getting back from vacay, then teaching my long summer class I just haven't gotten into it this year. I thought maybe we could get out a croquet set that I've never played with to play with the boys.
