You've Got A Friend In Me (Heavenly Chocolate Cake)

One of my favorite things about blogging is the amazing people I have met along the way. I was telling someone once about something one of my friends did and they said, "Is that one of your real friends, or just someone you know from blogging?" That left me feeling really irritated because they were implying that because I haven't met with someone face to face they really couldn't be considered real friends. The truth is, there have been some people who have been with me through years of blogging. I've watched their kids grow up, we exchange Christmas cards, we support each other and have grieved together through emails and messaging platforms. And in every sense of the word, I consider them my friend.

Just like in real life, people come and go, but sometimes people just click and they stay in it for the long haul. One day you get a comment on one of your posts and you stop by their blog to return the comment love because that's the nice thing to do, and before you know it you can't imagine not having that person in your life, even if you only get to interact online. Dezzy has become one of my best friends over the years. When I got really sick almost 2 years ago, he was one of my main sources of support. He would send me health story links, recipe and vitamin suggestions, and would just let me vent. I turned to him for support more than any of my real life friends and it was his encouragement that helped pushed me to get better. If that isn't a real friend, then I don't know what is. If you haven't been over to Hollywood Spy yet, you really should. Dezzy offers up a lot of information on upcoming television and movie releases so you can stay ahead of the game on upcoming attractions. Plus, he's a pretty cool fella, so pop over and say hi if you get a minute.

Now, that long winded intro does lead into today's Golden Blossom Honey offering. Dezzy and I have exchanged a few gifts over the years, and since he lives in Serbia, he always sends me some exciting local goodies that we don't have here in the States. Earlier this year I received a package with some really lovely silicone molds and I immediately knew I was going to use them to decorate this Heavenly Chocolate Cake that I had been wanting to try.

Heavenly Chocolate Cake

This cake is a chocolate lovers fantasy. You've got your chocolate cake center, your chocolate icing, and if you have some fancy molds too, you can garnish the cake with pretty chocolate candies. I thought the cake would make for an awesome Valentine's Day treat, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to use the roses on the mold or the hearts. In the end, I decided on both because what says Valentine's Day like roses AND hearts? Who needs a cheap box of chocolates when you can have this cake on the day of love instead?

Ingredients
4 eggs
Cake:
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups boiling water
3 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
2 teaspoons vanilla

Frosting:
1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup light cream
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY

Filling:
1 cup heavy cream
3 Tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1 teaspoon vanilla

  1. Awwww, now you almost made me tear up, deary dahlink :) We is not friends we is siblings! I couldn't imagine my everyday life without you either, sister!

OMG that cake turned out so gorgeous! I feel there will be millions of shares on Pinterest :) Your piped roses turned even prettier than the ones from my molds! Aren't they cute and charming? Your ganache is really shiny and lovely!
I see only three roses on top, admit that you ate the rest of them before decorating :PPP

I'm experiencing a really bad weekend, my electricity is down in my bathroom for some reason, I need to find an electrician to fix it and replace the ceiling lamp, thanks for cheering my up with the heartwarming, loving post!

    1. You're definitely the brother I always wanted ♥

Yes, I ate the extra roses and don't feel one bit ashamed :)

What a crummy way to spend the weekend. I hope your electrician doesn't cost an arm and a leg. That would be a kick in the teeth after you done treated yourself to that beautiful watch for all of your hard work last year!

    2. Were the molds user friendly? :) Could you pop the chocolate easily out of it? Hope you did not have too much trouble with them. I always use either the silicone ones or plain little muffin cups for that business.

    3. Yes, they were very user friendly. That's why I love silicone so much. Plastic ones piss me off to no end, so much so that I've gathered up all the ones that I have and gave them to charity.

  3. Sure turned out grand, but valentines day, pffft, you know what the cat thinks of that as you've been around for years, and he makes fun every year haha Yeah, some people just don't realize that you can have true friends through blogging. Yet, usually, they are the same people who brag that they have 5000 facebook friends who they never talk to. Pffffffffffft.

    1. Yes, Pat. We know you are the Grinch of Valentine's Day. But, St. You day is right around the corner, so you'll have reason to cheer once again. I never understood the whole "I need to have 5000 Facebook friends, but I won't comment or like their posts ever." I have like 100 people on my personal page and most of them are family. No need to be up in someone's business or have them in mine if we aren't really friends.

    1. Have someone else do the work is sometimes the smart way to go.

  5. Oh man that looks delicious! That was so sweet of your friend - and I totally agree! I have met some life-long friends online. When I was pregnant with my daughter (my first born) I was involved with a December baby board - my daughter is 14 now, and there are about 10 of us who still keep in touch regularly. I have been lucky enough to meet several of them in person - just this past summer one of my friends from Iowa was travelling through Charleston, and I got to enjoy showing her around downtown for the day before she had to head back out of town. It was so much fun!

    1. See, you can make real friends online! That's so cool that you've been friends with your online group for 14 years and even cooler that you've had the opportunity to meet some of them in person. The funny thing is, most of us interact through social media and texts these days, even with our "real life" friends, so I really don't see the difference in online vs real life friendships.

  6. That chocolate cake looks heavenly and although I'm not sure I can pull it off, I'm keeping the recipe. I completely understand you about the whole friends thing. Just because they're friends online doesn't mean they can't be real friends.

  7. I want a piece of that cake now it loks so good. It is great the sweetener for the icing and filling is golden blossom honey and they look so tasty. I am not a baker but this is worth trying to make.

  13. Wow! Dezzy is a great friend to have! Just wanted you to know that I appreciate when you stop by my little blog to comment. I don't have a ton of connections, but the few that I do have are wonderful! This cake looks picture perfect - delicious. I do enjoy cooking with honey, it gives baked goods a great taste and texture!

I have to agree with you in regards to the online friend situation. I've "met" so many wonderful people through blogging and those people have been there for me through the good, bad and ugly.
