Shiojiri Garden in Spring

I love how spring makes everything seem to come to life. I wish the gorgeous trees that flower each spring would stay that way year round. Right now, streets are lined with such lovely hues of white, pink, and purple, I can't help but find any opportunity I can to be outdoors. We are pretty lucky to have some amazing parks and gardens in my town, but one I find myself gravitating to this time of year is Shiojiri Garden, located in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Shiojiri Garden

This Japanese strolling garden is a tranquil place to explore the beauty of nature. Brides flock here in the summer because it offers the perfect backdrop for beautiful wedding photos, but I prefer its beauty in the spring when the trees are in bloom. Regular readers have probably snatched glimpses of some of the garden here since I frequently use it myself for photos on the blog.

Have a seat in the pavilion, where you can take in the beauty of the gardens while resting comfortably out of the sun.

Shiojiri Garden isn't very big. You can circle the entire garden in about 10 minutes if you are looking to zip in and zip back out. But for nature lovers, it's the perfect place to kick off your shoes and enjoy a little peace and tranquility.

Do you have a community garden that you like to visit in your town?

  1. How wonderfully strange that you have an Asian garden in the middle of Hosier Empire :) That last photo is gorgeous!
Our local ZOO is at the same time a botanical garden, so the animals live in such lavish surroundings like the ones above, it is really pretty.

    1. The garden symbolizes a Sister-City relationship with Shiojiri City, Japan. That's why we were lucky enough for the garden to be built in good old Hoosier Empire :) I did notice a little big of destruction when I was there last time, which made me a bit sad. I am not sure if it's from harsh winter conditions or vandals, but I hope whoever keeps up with the grooming of the garden fixes the run down areas this year.

  2. Nothing like that here, maybe in the city. But I rarely stroll through gardens it seems.

  10. So pretty! I love Magnolia flowers on trees the most. They were so big in Savannah, Georgia when I lived there. In Nebraska they only have the dwarf kinds. We have a pretty garden area here called Lauritzen Gardens. I haven't been their for a year. It's nice to go though.

    You got some great pictures!

  12. That looks like it would be a peaceful place to spend some time. We don't have anything super close by, the nearest one I really like is a good 30 minutes or so away.

  15. I am with you - Spring flowers should be around much longer. That looks like such a beautiful place to go relax. Even if small - bring a good book and blanket and lay under a tree for a while!
