When we were at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair a few weeks back, one vendor in particular really stood out to my family. I had the pleasure of meeting Brent Beck, inventor of Grandpa Beck's Games, and his wife Tauni.

We were immediately drawn to Grandpa Beck's Games booth because we are a family that really loves having family game night each week. We are always on the lookout for new and exciting games, and the brightly packaged card games they had on display caught our eye as we were passing by. We really loved the artwork, but what really drew us in was the enthusiasm Brent Beck had when explaining how each game worked. You could tell he was passionate about his games, and the way he explained each game caused a stir of excitement in us, too! We were gifted with a few packs of games to try at home for ourselves, and I can honestly say, Grandpa Beck's Games makes family game night a blast!

Grandpa Beck's Games

We love a night of good, fun competition, but with work schedules and extracurricular activities, sometimes we don't have a lot of time to play lengthy board games. What I love about each Grandpa Beck's Game is they are fast paced, designed for quick game play, usually lasting under 10 minutes. That's perfect for when we are short on time, but still want to do a little family gaming.

Their number one seller, Cover Your Assets is a fast paced game where you build up your assets, trying to become the first millionaire in the game. But watch out! Your assets can be seized by your opponents, making it a little challenging to get to millionaire mark first. The game is designed for 4-6 players, ages 7+.

You all know we are huge dog lovers, and our favorite of the games is Nuts About Mutts. It's a matching game where you pair up a number, color, or dog character. The first one to deplete their cards wins! We love that the cards are bright and colorful, and picture a lot of our favorite dog breeds. If you like Uno, you'll love this game! The game is designed for 3-8 players, ages 5+ for basic, and 8+ for advanced game play.

Skull King is a pirate-themed, strategy-based game. If you are highly competitive, then this is the game for you! Scheme and Skulk to gain points to win the game. This card game does last a little longer than the others, about 30 minutes per round. Skull King is designed for 2-6 players, age 8+.

The last game I am featuring we haven't had a chance to play yet, but I am sure we are going to love it as much as the other 3! Just like in real golf, Grandpa Beck's Golf makes you feel the emotions golfers feel on the golf course! Get the lowest amount of points to win. The box says it takes minutes to learn, and is appropriate for 2-5 players, ages 7+. I did flip through the cards and found a recipe card tucked in, too! Score!

All of the games are fairly easy to understand, but if you don't understand the game play, Grandpa Beck's Games has an instructional video of each game on their website. Each card game is beautifully designed, with fun and engaging graphics. The cards are printed on sturdy card stock, and packaged in a nice, thick game box. They will surely provide your family a lot of fun and laughs on family game night! If you are looking for a last minute stocking stuffer, I highly recommend any of Grandpa Beck's Games!

  1. The COVER YOUR ASSSETS sounds weird... I don't like kids thinking about money and expensive stuff and being raised into hypnotised members of consumer society, but the others look cute and sweet.

    1. Did you never play Monopoly then? That one is all about money and snapping up property, and we just love it! Though, it does take way too long to complete a game. That's my only beef with it. I guess if you have good parenting skills and teach your kids about real world values and how the money system works, money type games like these shouldn't be an issue.

    2. yes, dear, but whatabout the kids who don't have good parents like you are? It is still an issue for most of them.

  2. The dog one we would go with first, the the asset one, at least we can pretend to be a millionaire

  27. Hi Everyone! This is Grandpa Beck! (Brent) Thank you for all the nice comments! It was great fun meeting Theresa at ChiTag in Chicago. I could really tell when visiting with her that she had a great family and that they enjoyed quality time together playing games.
My wrife, Tauni, and I have five kids, all now married adults and nine grandkids. Family games have been a great source of recreation and quality time over the years. We gravitated toward card games, just as Theresa mentioned, since they don't take as long to play. Also it just seems to me that a good card game can be enjoyed for years and years!

If you have any questions about the games please feel free to call me or email me.
