I don't think there's a better way to spend a day than spending it on the beach. The warmth, the lull of the waves lapping up on the shore, digging my toes in the sand. I could sit on the beach every day of my life and be blissfully content. We try really hard to get to the beach every week. If we get there early enough, the kids like to swim or we'll rent a kayak. If we get there a little later, we'll play Frisbee or volleyball. On Sunday evenings, local musicians put on a free show for the crowd, which is always fun to attend.
I do love me some beach time, but I'm a firm believer that the beach should stay where it belongs, and not try to hitch a ride home with me. Nothing ruins a good day at the beach like dragging a ton of sand into the car, then dumping more out of your bag onto your floors when you get home. Messy, messy! Beach towels are a magnet for locking in sand, and even though I give them a good shake at the end of the day, they still manage to hang on to a ton of sand! This used to be a crummy issue to deal with, but I've found an amazing solution with the Gecko Parasheet Beach Blanket.
Made with 100% Parachute Nylon, it's the perfect solution for a sand-free day at the beach. It's lightweight (weighs less than 1 pound!), yet durable, and the nylon is a fast-drying material. 4 corner sand pockets keep the blanket weighted down when filled with sand or gravel, so it won't blow away on windy days. It spreads 7 by 6.5 feet, so it's plenty roomy for several people to lounge on. It also has snaps, so you can click together additional blankets for an even bigger crowd. The best part for me is the smooth surface that allows me to shake all sand off the blanket quickly and completely, so now I am not dragging any sand into the car or my home at the end of the day.
The only complaint I have is it didn't come with instructions. I was confused by the rubber bands on the 4 corners and thought maybe I was missing some tent stakes to keep it attached to the ground. It took me a minute to realize that I was supposed to flip it over and fill the pockets with sand in order for it to be weighted down. The rubber bands are in place in case you want to use tent stakes, which do not come with the blanket, so you'll have to purchase those separately if you wish to weigh it down that way.
The blanket is very versatile. Not only can it be used at the beach, you can use it for picnics, as a sun shade or a car seat over. It rolls up to about the size of a tee shirt and fits snugly in its carrying case, which can be tossed into your beach bag or purse, or even a coat pocket. It's machine washable, and I have washed it several times (line drying) and have not noticed any color fade or shrinkage.
Overall, I am very pleased with my new beach blanket! The Gecko Parasheet Beach Blanket is available in both blue and green, and can be purchased at Amazon.
