For those married couples, did any of you find sleeping arrangements quite an adjustment when you moved in with your spouse? Growing up, I always had my own bed, but when I got married, it was odd trying to navigate not only personal space, but comfort zones in the bedroom. After 17 years, Jason and I almost have a good agreement worked out. I get 80% of the bed and all but one of the pillows, and he gets to sleep with the window opened. I'm sure my bed hogging irritates him as much as the outside noise and light irritates me, but it's all about compromise, right? Usually, the window doesn't bother me too much, but on hot summer nights when we have just the window open and a fan going, I wake up really hot, and have to flip my pillow around to find a cool spot to get comfortable again. I am pretty sure a lot of people wake up with a hot head in the middle of the night, having to flip their pillow around to find a cool spot, so I was pretty intrigued when I heard about the PolarGel Cooling Pillow.
The PolarGel Cooling Pillow's advanced cooling gel regulates your body temperature by dispersing heat evenly throughout the pillow, so you don't wake in the middle of the night in search of a cooler spot to rest your head.
Honestly, after pulling it out of the box, I was a bit skeptical that it would live up to its cooling claim, as it didn't feel cold to the touch. I gave it a go anyway.
What you get in the box:
• 12" x 22" PolarGel Mat
• 2 No Slip Straps
I must clarify, while they call it a "pillow", it is indeed not a pillow. It is a plastic, gel filled mat that you insert into your pillowcase over your own pillow. It was study, and easily slipped into my pillowcase, covering my entire pillow perfectly. I haven't found any slipping issues, so I haven't had to use the pillow straps yet.
It did take a few minutes, but I did start to feel a cooling sensation when laying on it. I slept through the entire night without feeling overheated, and was happy I didn't have to shift my pillow once to find a cool spot. I was quite impressed that the mat lived up to its claims of keeping the head cool all night. For an even colder blast, you can pop the mat into the freezer before bed, then simply slip it back into the pillowcase for immediate cooling relief.
I did have 2 issues with the mat. 1- it made my pillow a lot firmer than I am used to. If you like a firm pillow, then you'll love this even more. If not, it is an adjustment to get used to. 2- It was a little heavy, and weighed my pillow down. I shift positions several times a night, hot or not, and move my pillow with me. While not too inconvenient, it did take a little more effort to adjust my pillow to a comfortable spot because of the added weight.
Even with those issues, I really do love the cooling mat. In summer, I get hot from the heat, and throughout the year, I sometimes wake up with night sweats because of my autoimmune disorder, so this gel mat is a great solution to keeping my body temperature regulated for a dry night's sleep. I think women who are going through menopause could really benefit from the cooling sensation as well!
If you are ready for a cool night's sleep, the PolarGel Cooling Pillow is currently available to purchase on Amazon.
