I've been dabbling in essential oils for a few years, and absolutely love the health benefits they offer. Now, some of them I like to keep on hand simply because I like the way they smell, but there are others that are an absolute must for me to keep stocked at all times because of their healing properties. Tea Tree Oil is one of those that are a must have for me.

There are hundreds of ways you can use tea tree oil for at home remedies, but I am going to share with you a few ways that I use it regularly.

Acne- When I feel a blemish coming on, I soak a cotton ball with water, add 2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil, and dab it on. Most often, the blemish never surfaces. If it already has surfaced the skin, I use the same method and it's usually gone within a day or two.

Dandruff- Tea Tree Oil is great for treating dandruff. Just mix 2 drops of oil per ounce of shampoo, rub into hair, let sit for 3 to 4 minutes, then rinse. If burning occurs, rinse immediately.

Lice Preventative- Fill a spray bottle with water, then add 2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil. Spritz over hair in the morning and allow to dry. Lice are repelled because they don't like oily hair or the scent of tea tree oil.

Clear Congestion- When I am suffering a cold, or the season changes bring on sinus pressure, I'll run a warm bath and add in a few drops of tea tree oil, then soak for 15 to 20 minute. I'll also add a few drops to my humidifier. It's great for opening up the nasal passageways.

Bug Bites- During the summer months, we are always pulling out the tea tree oil for those pesky bug bites. It's great for easing the itch from the pesky critters. Just soak a cotton ball in water, add 2 drops of tea tree oil, then dab onto affected area.

Disinfecting Cleaning Spray- Since my pets are allergic to a lot of the chemicals in commercial cleaners, I try to always make my own cleaning products. I add 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil and 2 cups of water to a spray bottle. Spray over surfaces, let sit for several minutes, then wipe away with a clean rag.

Tea tree oil is also great for athletes foot, calluses and corns, cold sores, ingrown hairs, mold and mildew, nail fungus, skin tags, ringworm, healing scrapes and cuts, and warts.

I really like to use Australian Tea Tree Oil by Emmi's Essentials.

Tea Tree Oil

Emmi's Essentials Tea Tree Oil is sourced from Australia (100% pure tea tree oil steam distilled from leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree native to Australia), and bottled here in the U.S. To me, tea tree oil isn't the most pleasantly scented of all the essential oils. It has a medicinal scent that can be a bit overpowering if you aren't used to it, but the scent does fade after several minutes. When I first received my order from Amazon, I was a little miffed that it didn't come with a dropper, but once I opened the lid, I saw it had a built-in eurodropper that dispenses one drop of oil at a time, so there was no need for an additional dropper.

Emmi's Essentials sends out a free Tea Tree Essential Oils guide with your purchase, detailing the many benefits of tea tree oil and has recipes for your own diy health and beauty and cleaning products. They also offer a "love it or your money back" guarantee. If you are fully satisfied, there's a no catch money back guarantee.

Emmi's Essentials Tea Tree Oil is available to purchase for $19.99 for a 2 ounce bottle on Amazon.

    2. I don't know where they go. We've never had them. They don't like oil or the scent so they steer clear of heads that have been spritzed with tea tree oil.
