Now that my girls are at the age where I think it's safe for them to do a little cooking on their own, I have been on the lookout for simple meal ideas that let them get more hands on in the kitchen. We all know that when they have a hand in preparing the meal, they are more likely to eat what they've made. Since Mariah is almost 16, she can handle more complex recipes, but Allison is just getting her feet wet in the kitchen, so we are starting with small recipes. So far, she's only really done grilled cheese and spaghetti, but she has been itching to get a little more creative with the cooking. I thought pizza would be perfect for her to move on to, since it involves layers and creating your own toppings, she would have complete creative control. I don't think she can handle making crust and sauce from scratch, but thanks to Rustic Crust, we get fresh, homemade taste without the effort of spending all day making sauces and crust from scratch.

Rustic Crust

Rustic Crust

All Rustic Crust ready-made crusts are:

• Made using traditional, Old World baking methods: Hand formed and double proofed for flavor
• Use delicious, all-natural ingredients: Select herbs and spices, No GMOs or artificial ingredients
• Healthy for the whole family: Unbleached whole flours, no trans fats and no added sugar
• Convenient, ready-made pizza crusts that are ready to enjoy in minutes]
• Oversized Rounds for extra value
• Made in the USA

Even though she had complete control, Allison decided that since pepperoni pizza is her favorite, she'd stick with with just simple sauce, cheese and pepperoni for her toppings.

She was able to chose between Sea Salt and Basil, Crispy Italian Thin Crust, or Cheesy Herb Pizza Crust. She ended up with Crispy Italian thin crust. The delicious Old World Pasta Sauce comes 3 packets to a box, and each packet provided the perfect amount of sauce per pizza, so it made measuring a snap. She finished off her pizza with 2 cups of shredded mozzarella and some pepperoni slices. Baked in a preheated oven, her pizza creation was complete from start to finish in under 15 minutes.

And then it was time for the taste test. How did it turn out?

Girls Eating Pizza

"Nom! Nom! Nom!" was the first words out of their mouths. Allison is thrilled she can add another item to her list of things she can make on her own in the kitchen!

    1. Man, it's not available at my Costco! Wish it were because we shop there frequently. I only have to go 2 blocks away from Costco to get it, but it would be nice to grab it while I'm already there.

I'm one of the few who likes pineapple on my pizza - with Canadian bacon or mushrooms, whatever. Just toss on some pineapple, and I'm extra happy.
