Theresa's Mixed Nuts: New Carlisle Holiday Parade!

New Carlisle Holiday Parade!

We live in a decent sized city, and while our town has a few parades each year, they have never offered a Christmas parade. I was browsing our newspaper for fun holiday outings to do with our girls this month and came across a Christmas parade in a little town about 20 minutes from where we live. I thought it was odd that they were having it on a Sunday evening, but they tempted us to head out with the promise of free cocoa and cookies after the parade.

New Carlisle is one of those small towns where it has an everyone knows everyone kind of feel. It is also where they filmed some of the scenes for the Christmas movie Prancer. I pointed out the old manor house to my girls that was in the movie, and they were pretty excited, though it was too dark to stop for a photo.

The parade lasted about 15 minutes, but it was fun to see all of the floats lit up at night.

Santa wrapped up the parade, being led by some of New Carlisle's finest.

We did head over for the cookies and cocoa, and ended up being just 3 people shy of getting any snacks before they ran out. Talk about bum luck ;) But, the girls had a good time anyway, getting to experience their first Christmas parade!

Does your town offer any holiday parades?

  2. Our town does a Christmas parade (not holiday, Christmas), but they do it during the day. We missed it this year because Chris and I were away, but I wish they did it at night because I think it would be more fun if the floats were all lit up.

  3. That is bad luck indeed on the snacks. But at least the parade was fun. We have a few around here.

  7. The town where I grew up did not have any parades--and the town I now live on doesn't either. I have been to small town parades and actually nothing beats them--maybe it is the small town feel!!

  10. The parade might last 15 minutes, but coming from Mardi Gras, I know that there's a lot of planning and time spent for those floats. I hope you had a lot of fun! Looks cold.. hehe

  11. Those were some fun looking floats. Our town does Christmas Parade but it has only been happening a few years. I think the first year it was like 5-10 minutes. It's a bit longer now.

  14. I love that it's after dark and all lit up! We went to our first Santa parade last weekend-it was about 10 minutes and pretty lame, but we got great candy! A fun memory for kids.

  16. No. We moved from a big city where there were lots of holiday activities to get in on to a smaller city that doesn't do much. That looks like a lot of fun!

  17. Our town has a large Halloween and St. Patrick's Day parade, but anything in between is just too cold and snowy to celebrate.

  26. I'm sure our town does. I've just never looked into it. We live in a city. There's a lot to do here. It's not a large city, but it's a city. This holiday parade looks cool!

  27. We got snowed out this year for our parade. This one looks like it was nice, even if it was a bit short! Short is good anyway, if it's cold out ;)

  28. I have to check to see if we do a holiday parade. I have not gone to a Christmas parade in years as the ones back home had become unsafe. Yours looks amazing and now I want to see if I can take our kids to one.

  31. We missed all the parades this year! :( Just not enough time. But I love to go and we have done this several years in a row. We even went one year during a snowstorm. It was so messy and we had hardly any people out that year. What a great float at end there with santa!! Beautiful job.
