I recently posted about how we are trying to eliminate all of the plastic kitchen utensils in my home. I have replaced my my plastic spoons and spatulas with bamboo, so it was only logical the next replacement would be ditching my plastic cutting boards for more eco-friendly bamboo cutting boards. The Surpahs 3 piece, 3-Layer Cross-Laminated Bamboo Cutting Board Set was the perfect fit for my needs.
The bamboo cutting boards are light weight, durable, and available in sizes 8", 11", and 13", so there is a board for every one of my cutting jobs. My old plastic cutting boards were very hard on my knives, dulling them out very quickly. The Surpahs bamboo cutting boards are much easier on my knives, not causing the blades to dull, even with frequent use.
Since bamboo doesn't retain water easily, I don't worry about it warping or cracking when I wash them (hand wash!), and since it doesn't absorb many materials, I feel safer using them without worrying about bacteria seeping into the boards, causing food contamination. Best of all, since bamboo is renewable, it is an environmentally friendly product.
The sleek design and natural finish has the boards looking great in my kitchen. The boards are also resistant to cut marks made from the knives, so they stay in great shape for many uses! Each board has a small hole in the corner that makes them easy to hang for quick storage and retrieval.
I do not recommend leaving the boards to soak in water, as little bamboo hairs will pop up on them. The hairs can be removed with a soft bristled brush and mild detergent, but I like to take the prevention route when possible and just immediately hand wash and dry them as soon as I am finished using them.
Whether you are just learning, or are an experienced chef, Surpahs 3 piece, 3-Layer Cross-Laminated Bamboo Cutting Board Set is a great product for any cook. They are currently available to purchase on Amazon.
