$1 Movie Theater

I was wondering, does anyone else have a $1 movie theater? The girls expect me to keep them entertained when their friends are busy over summer break, so I am left trying to find inexpensive things we can enjoy doing together. One of my favorite places to take the girls is to the $1 movie theater. For just a buck you can watch a show. I think it's a fantastic deal, but the catch is, they are usually movies that have already been in the theaters for a while. Last week, one of the movies they were playing The Lego Movie, which we got to see for a grand total of $3.

Not the greatest shot, but whatever ;)

I think the ticket price is a real bargain, but in our theater, you really do get what you pay for. It's a bit run down inside, but nothing we can't deal with once seated. Except last week there was a cricket noisily chirping and this guy had to break out the bug spray.

Pardon the grainy iPhone pic.

The popcorn and soda prices are still ridiculously over priced like at every other theater, so we don't buy them. Actually, the girls got diarrhea twice from the popcorn, so even at a bargain price like the tickets, we still wouldn't touch it. So, if you don't mind not snacking and listening to an occasional cricket, the $1 theater is a great source of summer boredom entertainment.

Do you have a bargain theater in your area?

  1. We don't have a $1 theater, but our local theater plays a $1 movie at 10 am on Tues & weds in the summer. It's an older movie - like from last summer, but for $1, I can't complain.

  5. We have one, but it's no longer a dollar. It's across town, so that's why we haven't gone there too many times.

I wish we had a drive in theater. I've never been to one. I've always wanted to go.

  6. We only have one theater, and tickets expensive. They also frequently have sell out crowds the first two or three weekends for any movie that has any kind of press (Frozen sold out nearly every showing for four weekends). So our town could definitely support another one, but one hasn't opened up. I think there may have been a cheap one that was never reopened after the huge flood in 2011, but we never attended movies at that time because Elliott wouldn't sit still long enough yet.

  7. The bargain theaters have gone to the weigh side around here. Very few $1 establishments because the same movies would be on netflix or hulu or whatever. Glad to see you here today my friend, I am feeling well enough for some typing greetings moments. I am not 100% yet, but should be by Friday = chemo 5 [YUK]

  8. The regular theaters run kids' shows early in the morning for a discount (not sure of the price, but way less than a normal ticket). We haven't been because we've seen the shows playing (that we liked). I'd see Maleficent if it came, I liked that enough to see twice.

The Lego Movie is my son's fave. We went to rent it when it came out and just ended up buying it since it was on sale for $9. :)

  14. We visited a $1 movie theater when my husband was stationed in North Carolina. I loved it because the movies here in NYC are really expensive.

  16. We used to go to the dollar theater all the time, but I don't think any of them are still open. I'd love an inexpensive way to take my kids to the movies.

  18. We have that on our army base and sometimes it includes popcorn and a drink. They usually show the movies that you didn't get to see in the movies and is now on DVD but it makes for a fun family outing.

  25. This is really an inexpensive way to have fun with your kids. I don't believe we have any theaters that show money for just $1 but my husband and I will go to movies on Sunday morning and catch a pretty good deal.

  26. I am telling you, it is really the way to go! I take my little ones to the dollar shows and then I do not feel bad if I have to leave early if someone is acting up!

  27. My family and I like to go to Winston on the weekends and see movies at a theater for $2. We end up making a day of it. We go to dinner, and watch about two or three movies in one night. We always have a blast!

  28. We have a $1 theatre. It's been around for ages. In fact it was the ONLY theatre when my mom was little.. They have $1 nights and then $2 nights. It's definitely a bargain. I don't really ever take my kids to the full priced theatre because it is so expensive. I can't justify paying $50 just for tickets when I can wait a few weeks and see it for $4.
