Theresa's Mixed Nuts: Short Girl Problems

Short Girl Problems

Allison is constantly annoyed by the fact that she is short. She is always measuring herself in hopes that she has gotten to the point where she is tall enough to ride all the roller coasters at Cedar Point. Ever since she was 1/4 inch too short to ride a coaster at a different theme park, one in which she left the line in tears, she has been dreaming of the day when she finally grows. While she is *almost* tall enough now for the CP coasters, she took another blow this past weekend.

We were invited to a birthday party at the local fun center. After a fun round of bowling, the kids got to ride the go carts. Of course, you have to be a certain size to ride the bigger ones by yourself. Imagine how pissed she was when she was told she had to ride the "baby" go carts, and the 7 year old that was at the party was told to ride the bigger ones.

Go Kart
Forced Smile All The Way...
That track was really not fun to go round and round on. I kind of felt bad for her!

The cutoff for the big karts was right at the top of her friends head, so it looks like it will be a few more years before she can ride the big ones by herself, unless she finds a magic pill to make her grow.Or finds a working Zoltar machine and wishes to be BIG :)

Has your height ever prevented you from doing something you love?

  1. Oh I remember those days. I didn't get my height until 10th grade.

We had a fun park where they had go-karts when I was little. There was no "baby" version though you could ride with someone tall enough.

  2. I too have felt many times for my height!

  3. I am only 5'2", so I feel her pain. I can't think of anything specific that I haven't been able to do because I am so short, but I definitely can't reach the top shelf of any of my cabinets, so I need to keep a stool in the kitchen.

  4. I am 5' 3" and that is on a good day. I can remember when I was small, not being about to wait to ride the big kid rides at Conneaut Lake Park.

  5. Can't say it ever got in the way for me, never that tall, just tall enough

  6. I myself was a fat little walrus as a kid... seriously fat....

  7. Poor girl! I feel for her. :(

I never had a problem with height, but my older sister did. She's only 5' 2".

  8. Aww, man. Poor thing! My 7 year old is in the 50th percentile for height and my 4 year old the 90th. I worry about the day that he is taller than his brother!

  9. Awww poor her!! Well luckily it won't last too much longer. Fortunately I have never had that issue.

  10. I'm 5 ft. 8.5" and was always called tall. Hubby's family has some really tall women though...so I don't seem tall here. I can even wear heels. ;)

And aww, to your daughter. That would be a huge bummer.

  11. I had trouble getting on them at first

  12. Poor girl! We don't have that problem at our house. We're all pretty tall. I'm not sure on Elliott's exact height, but in a class full of really tall kids, he's still tall. He just turned 8 last month, and there are only 2 third graders at his school taller than him. There's one kid in his class taller.

  14. I remember those days. I was always the smallest in the class. I finally made it to 5' 2" but the good rides at the Calgary Stampede were out of my reach until I was a teen. I feel so bad for her :(

  15. I know how she feels--I am around 5'3" and there have been many times I wished I was a bit taller!

  16. I was a short girl all my life. I can totally relate to her short comings!! Don't worry! Eventually everything evens out!

  17. I am 5 and change inches. So yeah, I have gotten my share of misfortunes on certain situations. I can relate very well with her :)

  18. Ah, poor thing. She is lovely as is. Hoping she doesn't miss out on too much because of her size.

  19. Me, I have been short my whole life. Upside, my pants are never too short :)

  20. In most parts of Europe I'm actually rather short, but when I moved to Cyprus, I actually feel I'm quite tall now - people here are not the tallest. I guess it's a matter of where you live...

  21. My youngest son experienced this for a bit, but not for too long. They are both pretty tall and we think they will both be over six feet when they get older. I was one of the taller girls, but only made it 5'6.5. I can see why your daughter was upset. That stinks, but soon enough she'll be tall enough.

  22. I'm so sorry. I totally get it, though I'm much more of a chicken than Allison. Please give her a big hug from me, a woman who's only 4'8"! (I rarely admit that, because people go wacko and get so mean towards us short ones. They have no shame asking me my height, if I'm a midget or dwarf, whatever. They're ruthless. It doesn't stop when you get older, either. But she'll be fine. We just gotta keep our chins up.) Another upside: we always look younger than we are. As an adult, this will pay off for your daughter.

  23. Yep being short can suck sometimes especially at theme parks i've missed out on rides before because of height.

  24. I'm 5' 7" so I've never really been short or tall. It seems like I'm pretty tall now compared to everyone else, especially wearing heels.

  25. I'm 5ft 6 and was always head and shoulders over everyone at primary school I stopped growing when I got to about 10 and then everyone over took me and I was short - now that was an odd feeling lol. x

  26. AWWW LOL yes I can relate. Even as an adult I am almost 5 feet tall :(. My 7 year old is catching up fast to me. I can honestly say it never impacted me though, I like being short.

  27. Awww, lol Zoltar. My daughter is 12 and is having the same issue! She is 4'9" and at her last checkup the doctor told her that she was afraid she might not grow much taller. My girl was devastated and has been measuring herself non-stop since. It doesn't help much that her 13 year old cousin is 5'8". But she has us all beat, my niece is taller than all the women in my family.

  28. Aww so awful - I can only imagine how hard that must have been for her! I have always been the opposite (too tall!) and I hated it. She will get there soon and she will enjoy all those rides more :)

  29. I've always been relatively tall for my age so never had that problem but my oldest son was short until he shot up last summer. He was always too short to ride the cool rides and was always upset. I used to feel bad for him too. :( She'll shoot up in no time and you'll start wondering where is the short little girl you knew. :)

  30. I can understand her frustrations. She still has time to grow some. My 18 yoa step-daughter is 5'1" tall and is always told how short she is. She's learned to cope with it and says she's not short, just fun-sized.
