I Wanna Be Like You ~ Throwback Thursday

Little Girl Dress Up

I think I am on a sentimental kick lately. I was going through some old photos and came across this one. While it's kind of blurry and the lighting is awful, it's one of my favorite pictures of my girls. I just love the look of adoration on Allison's face as she stares up at her big sister. Allison has always been in awe of Mariah, wanting to be just like her. At her last dentist appointment she was told she would be getting braces soon. "Oh, I am turning into Mariah!" she squealed! Then, just a few weeks ago, she got glasses, which her sister already wears. "I really am going to be like Mariah now!" Being close with siblings is a foreign concept to me. I have 3 that I rarely talk to. It's sad, but it is what it is. I just hope my girls never lose the closeness they share, and I hope Allison will always look up to Mariah. There's just something magical about a sisterly bond.

*Do you have siblings? Are you close with them?

  1. I can relate to your problem, sister Theresa. I don't speak with my older brother at all. He is my biggest nemesis :)

    1. That's me and my big sister too Dezzy! Haven't spoke to her in 3 years, and we both agree we will go to our graves that way. The younger ones, we are just formally pleasant with each other when we have to be in the same room lol. BUT- like my best friend says- God gave us friends to apologize for our family hahaha!

    2. true that, sister, true! I also don't think I will ever speak with my brother, I don't even call him that but 'that person who is supposed to be my brother'.

  2. Aww, look how little they were!! So cute. I have one of each and I am MUCH closer with my brother than I am with my sister.

  3. Oh they are so cute!!! I do more so with my youngest sibling, but it has sort of disappeared a little when Emerson came. She's so busy with him. He takes a whole lot of time. He's certainly loveable though.

My oldest sister is adopted. We totally get along for the most part. It's just that she's usually not happy with everyone in her life. She complains often about others to me. Then I scramble at listening and backing up the one that she's against that week. I can never stay mad at her though. There's been a few times I've tried. She went through a period of time where drugs and alcohol were her best friend. My niece was pushed aside during that time. I took care of her a lot. That was when my niece was a baby to age 5. My sister got help, and has been a good mom since that time.

    1. That is wonderful that you were there to help your niece during that time. That's the same reason I had my niece for a year too. I am happy your sister was able to get the help that she needed to become a better person and mother.

And yes, Emerson really is loveable! He's certainly caught the hearts of all your blog readers!

  4. That is SO sweet!! I love when siblings can be that close :) I wish I had the closeness in a sibling as well. That's really adorable that she wants to be just like her big sister hehe.

  5. My sister-in-law of 28 years is just like my sister to me. We've always been able to tell each other anything. I guess we kind of grew up together, though not in the same way as your girls. I love the picture too. They both look so cute, and you can totally see the way they look now in their younger faces. :)

  6. That is really sweet. I always adored my older sister, until she stopped talking to me (in our adult years). I understand your sadness. I'm sure your girls will always stay lovingly connected. Let's hope.

  7. Awh, sweet post, Theresa! Yes, I have one sister (she used to blog} and one brother and one other brother that lived with me and passed away nearly two years ago. We are close. I am the youngest and I have literally always looked up to them {they are both taller than my 5'5" size} Both of them are fun and nice to me but sometime that can drive me crazy, too!!! Nah, I love them. My two {only two} daughters are as different as night and day but they always care for each other and for me. Their husbands are as different as night and day, too, and literally too. One is 5'6" and the other is 6'11". Ya! I LOVE THEM ALLLLLLL! and, ...you too! ♥

  9. aww this is a really beautiful photo! Love it too :) I have 2 older sisters and although our relationships are good, it's just not too close so our age gaps are so big. But it is what it is and I still love them lots.

  10. I'm semi-close to my siblings. Ironically the one I see the most is my "hated" brother. Siblings being too close in age can lead to some terrible results. My nephews are about the same gap as my brother Zach and I, and they fight all the time.

  11. This reminds me of a picture of my two when they were little. The younger one looking up adoring the older one! They are still close now and I am thankful for that everyday! I guess I am lucky to be so close to my siblings too!

  12. I get together with my siblings and their families every Thanksgiving. We hop from city to city; but this year, we'll all be together in August for a niece's wedding. You need to call a sibling, today!

  13. Yes, my HM is great and I praise him as perfect, but he DIDN'T rescue us as was evident in my IG post in the rain. He didn't want to venture out when we could very well drive {in the rain without any wipers} barely seeing the road and the 'white line'. {remind me to tell you about the 'white line' sometime}. So my practically perfect husband slipped a cog today, but I still love him and he let me go out and leave him and have a day out with my daughter so, I guess we are even. love to you, my friend! 14. How cute that Allison wants to be like her big sister.... It is better than her not liking her. I don't live close to either of my sisters.. but no one can make me laugh like my older sister.
