Theresa's Mixed Nuts: Paper Scarecrow Girls

Paper Scarecrow Girls

Every year the elementary school does a fall fun fair. A few weeks before, they let the kids make paper scarecrows, then at the fun fair, the visitors vote on their favorites. Last year was our first year participating. We decided not to stick with a traditional scarecrow. We wanted something that was going to stand out from the rest. So, Allison decided she was going to make a Wonder Woman scarecrow. We used a lot of felt, tulle and yarn, then our superhero scarecrow was complete.

My husband was asking for a slap to the head when he said "You are not going to win this. Nobody is going to vote for Wonder Woman. That's not even a scarecrow." Whatever. I think she turned out well, and we had fun, so that's all that mattered. When we got to the fair, I was completely giddy when my husband had to eat his words. Our vote envelope was stuffed with votes! I honestly think Allison would have won the contest had it not been for her friend bringing in her entire family. It's a huge one! They adopt a child from China every year. Their van's back window is covered in those stick people! Then her entire dance troop came in and tossed their votes in too. Allison thought it was a little unfair, but we used it as a lesson that not everything in life is fair. As long as she knows she did hard, honest work, she was already a winner!

This year she decided on a Notre Dame cheerleader. She tried to convince me to help her make a Michigan cheerleader (because, according to her, there are more Michigan fans at her school) and I almost washed her mouth out with soap. There will be NO Michigan cheerleaders in this house haha! To make her look more like a scarecrow this year, her hair was made out of straw. Her outfit was once again made out of felt, with a glitter gold belt, finished off with some blue and gold pom poms.

Voting is tonight. Wish us luck! :)

What does your ideal scarecrow look like?

  1. GOOD LUCK!!! That Wonder Woman is awesome and I am not surprised that it got tons of votes. I love her scarecrow this year and I have a feeling she is going to do very well. I can't wait to hear how she does :)

  2. Good luck, hope she wins. That is kinda crummy about rigging the voting with a huge family, but it happens.

  8. Oh awesome! 'vote' 'vote' vote' (subliminal messages sent out to those that can vote) hahahahaha. I loved both of her entries. My 1dd loved Wonder Woman as a toddler. She called her 'Wuh-man Wuh-man' hahahaha, (great memory stir).

I'm feeling much better but have a bad cough that chokes sometimes. yikes. I had to be in BED for 3 days; I was so full of body aches. Mean colds anyway! Pooop. Made me miss WW Linky this week. That's ok. I still got tons of visits. I guess peeps were wondering where I was and came to me anyway. dang. Love the loyal WW Linky group, huh?

    Take care girl friend! ♥

  17. Those are so fun! I love them. I'd have a hard time getting rid of them down the road because they are so cute. At the same time they are pretty big to store.

    1. She kept the one from last year. It's hanging on her wall. Thankfully we have pics of her scarecrows, so when it's time to toss them, at least we will have them on a photo.

  18. It is unfair how some contests will always be rigged. It's also unfair that her mom doesn't recognize a great team like Michigan.
