Theresa's Mixed Nuts: It Gets Worse!

It Gets Worse!

I was over at Masshole Mommy the other day, reading about her disdain for Chuck E. Cheese. I was nodding my head in agreement with her description of the place. To most kids, it's heaven on earth. As for parents, I'm pretty sure we can accurately describe it as hell on earth. I seriously hate that place. The noise levels worse than a heavy metal concert, moronic parents use that kid check as a means for a babysitter, I am always hounded by kids I don't know for more tokens, and it takes me twice as long to leave because my shoes are all but glued to the sticky mess that they call a floor. As we were leaving my nephew's birthday party from there last year, my husband and I agreed that would be the last time we ever set foot in that place. Our kids are getting older and it's not as cool anymore. We will politely decline any future party invites from there.

Mariah got invited to a concert, so we told Allison we would do something fun with her. "I want to go to an arcade!" Since Chuck E. Cheese was out of the question, we settled for Mega Play. We haven't been to this one, so we figured we'd give it a go. Big mistake! The lack of cars in the parking lot should have tipped us off. But in we went. Trying to figure out how to get tokens took forever, until we were told we had to buy a credit card type deal to play the games. We had to pay $1 just to get the card, then put money on it for the games, and the buck didn't go towards that!

Teaching kids early it's fun to play with credit cards!

The games cost 50¢ each to play, so the funds on that card fall off pretty quick. Wanna play pinball? You only get 1 ball. Pretty big rip off right there at 50¢ a pop. At least skee ball was still fun, even if it did cost twice as much to play. And we still got the standard 9 balls.

After $10 was blown through in a matter of minutes, we took our 150 tickets up to the counter to redeem for fabulous parting gifts and prizes. Imagine Allison's disappointment when the only prizes to select from were USED happy meal toys!

Seriously. They were used. Dirt, paint scuffs and all. And cost 100 tickets each. Total WTF moment right there! So, all you CEC haters out there, it gets worse. Maybe Chuck E. Cheese isn't so bad after all.

  2. I never thought I'd say this, but maybe ypu guys should have gone to Chuck E. Cheese. OY - I need to go wash my mouth out with soap now.

Seriously, what a rip off. I can't believe they made you pay for the card and that money didn't even go towards games. Jerks.

  5. Not a good deal at all Theresa! It is very disappointing when one does not get good service etc. at some establishments.

  8. That's crazy! We've taken the boys to The Amazing Pizza Machine. That's about it. We have a Chuck E. Cheese, but The Amazing Pizza Machine has rides, not just games. We opted to go there instead.

  11. Yes and owner of said weird establishment probably bought those Happy Meal toys at a Yard Sale.

I am sorry that experience wasn't 'RED FLAGGED' sooner.

I THINK CHUCK E CHEESE IS A HORRID PLACE.

  13. LOL I was just reading this and was remembering our adventure a few weeks ago at a similar place. We went with our grown kids for my son-in-laws b-day. Same deal on the cards although they had tokes too. Half of the games didn't work, the token machine didn't work, and the floor was a sticky mess from hell. We did have a good time on the go-carts though until it started to rain :( Your prize choice is hands down the best....lol Hope you wrote a letter to compliment them on being worse that CECs.

  14. Sounds like a real crappy place if they charge more than others and still have only used toys as prizes. A total rip-off.

  16. Yeah, I'm not huge on Chuck E Cheese either but have learned that they are at least one of the cheapest arcades out there. I can usually stand a few hours and then I'm done. In our area we have "The Jungle" too, which is mostly tunnels and ball pits but does have an arcade that is twice the cost of CEC. The worst part of the Jungle though is the smell in the winter time. Seriously it smells like BO cuz' you get so many little bodies in there all playing hard and sweating. The only good thing about that place is they have a sound proof parent room and my kids are sort of old enough to run around on their own with their friends. However, since they can't really access me there, I don't like to use it because I like my kids to be able to find me if they need me.

  17. Super terrible! Don't they have the good sense of a business? Giving some used toys to your customer is an insult. Hmm I guess, I should be thankful we don't have CEC here.

  18. Oh wow...that sounds awful! AND expensive!! Geesh!! I can't believe the selection of toys...used toys! I'm surprised they're still in operation lol
