Theresa's Mixed Nuts: Awwww, Yeah! Field Day!

Awwww, Yeah! Field Day!

I think I looked forward to field day more than any other day when I was in school. Was there anything more fun than potato sack racing, water balloon tossing, and just spending a whole day outside? I don't think so! So, when Allison brought home a form needing volunteers to help again this year, I couldn't say no, even though I get the craptastic  games to coach every. darn. time! You know, cornhole and ring toss. The games kids don't want to play after 5 minutes. I decided to come prepared this year with my own games. Games that would finally make me the cool game leader for once. And as my luck would have it, as soon as I arrived, all of the volunteer spots were filled. PFT! I didn't get to run a single game, but I got even better and got to go to each station with my kid!

Outdoor activities are always a blast!

A little art is fun and gets you out of the sun for a bit.

Ending the day with a Popsicle is the best way to cool off though!

Did you love field day when you were in elementary school? What was your favorite field day activity?

  1. I forgot about field day! Yes, it's SOOO fun! I didn't know they still did that, but so glad to see they do. It's such a blast and I always loved getting popsicles after :) How fun that you got to volunteer too! I think it's a great way to get kids active, socializing with each other and most importantly having FUN :)

  3. It looks like so much fun! This post brought back such great memories. When I was growing up, we had field day in grades 1-6, but in my town only the kindergartners and 5th graders get one. It's so stupid. My little man has his tomorrow and I am going in, so hopefully I can snap some pictures of him :)

  8. I did love field day! Hula hoop and jump rope contests were my thing because I always took home the blue ribbon. ;) I liked everything though. Our field day is tomorrow.

  9. I hated field day when I was little. I'm really pale, though, and could count on a sunburn bad enough to blister, even with using sunscreen in the morning (we weren't allowed to take anything with us).

My son really liked his this year, though. He is also very fair skinned, but so are lots of other kids here, so the teachers reminded the kids to put on sunscreen frequently, so he only ended up slightly sunburned. He scored a blue or red ribbon in everything he participated in, too.

  10. Yup, you still look like Ashley Judd and even more so in the pic. Did you see two emails from me or via me? Perhaps check your spam folders?

  12. Looks like it was a good time. My kids are older now so they don't have very many field trips. The last one was to Six Flags and I didn't get to go.

  13. I wonder if what you call field day is sports day here. I looked forward to sports day in high school. Students were in different 'houses' and we would wear the colours for the house and sing and cheer the teams on. I was in the Josephite house so I wore red ribbons while my twin wore brown ribbons as she was in the Franciscan House. That time was among the few times that other students could easily tell the difference between me and my twin!:) I am glad you all had a good time Theresa. Lovely pictures.
