DIY Network Ladies- Perception vs. Reality

I love home improvement. Nothing makes me happier than tearing a room down to the studs, then turning around and building it back up all pretty. My husband doesn’t understand why I have such a hard time learning girly things, like sewing, but I have no problem doing diy house work. Sometimes I will turn on the DIY Network to get some ideas for future projects. It makes me happy to see a lot of women contractors with their successful shows on that station. Lately though, as I watch these shows, something just doesn’t seem right. These women are getting in there, ripping up rooms, laying tile, hanging drywall, and painting. As all of this is going down, they have on their designer jeans and shoes, hair and makeup are perfectly in place, and as soon as the room is complete, they look like they can skip on over and be contestants on America’s Next Top Model.

When I get done with a project, I look like I need to skip on over to Charlie Brown to fill in for Pig Pen.

What’s with this woman wearing a nice white top to do some home remodeling? My new goal is to get my own show on DIY Network so I can fulfill a passion, all while looking incredible at the same time.

Do you do your own home improvement projects? Do you get 1/2 as messy as I do or would you fit right in with the ladies of DIY Network?

  1. I have thought this SO many times when watching these shows. As much as I love these shows and seeing women holding their own as contractors and stuff, I'm always amazed that they're perfectly intact when the job is done ;) lol. Although, even with your filthy hands and face, you still look fabulous!!! How is that? So see, it IS possible to look good while doing dirty work! And...you do have a white top on in that pic Theresa LMAO...but at least it says Dork Magnet bahaha. Love that shirt!

    1. I thought you would appreciate the shirt Brandi hahaha! And yes, it is white, but it got filthy, even if you can't see it in the photo. I guess I touch my face a lot more than I realize :S

  2. Makes me think of CSI. I actually don't watch it but I never understood why every woman on the force is perfect and dresses like a movie star to go to a crime scene... Crime scenes are messy.

  5. Casey, I so wouldn't either. I think we should start our own diy show. "The REAL DIY Housewives of Blogger Community" has a nice ring to it, no?

    1. It's really no different than some arts and crafts projects. It's just done on a larger scale!

  8. I love to watch the shows & imagine the projects in my own home, but I do not tackle them. I can imagine the mess I'd have (to clean up). Congrats to you on your projects! The biggest thing I've done is stain the deck (messy. took forever. looked good, though!)

  9. Theresa I wouldn't know where to begin! I have so many projects that I need done in my home. My husband isn't fit for the job either unfortunately lol. I need to look through your blog so I can see some of your projects!

I used to watch the HGTV networks too and I always wanted to do some of the projects. Maybe one day (sighs). Also I definitely want to look like one of the next top models afterwards.

  12. I had to chuckle new white tee, pretty clothes? I recently have been working on a new chair re-purpose which includes spray paint. Lets just say I wore funky clothes & my hands were full of paint when done, hair wind blown & ready to join you in the Peanuts Gallery! My favorite shows are Property Brothers & Kitchen Cousins. I need them stat!
I have been thinking about re-doing our kitchen cabinets but, we'll see how brave I get & how much time I have to devote to it before it rains & after the heat leaves our area. No room in the garage.
I look forward to getting to know you better thanks for the follow on Google+ & twitter. Following you back! Theresa @ DearCreatives.com
