Theresa's Mixed Nuts: My Husband vs. Pinterest

My Husband vs. Pinterest

There is a new evil in our house and it’s name is Pinterest. Ok, it’s not evil to me. I’ve been addicted to that site for the past few months, like many others I know. Frankly, I think it’s the greatest site ever! My only complaint is I spend way too much time on there looking for creative recipes, creative crafts, and ways to create memories with my children. My husband, on the other hand, has more than one complaint.

As we pulled into Michael’s parking lot for the fourth weekend in a row, my husband mumbled how sick he was of coming to that store. Something about losing man parts of the body every time he walks into the door lol. Anyhow, as I was dragging him along I found these fantastic slate coasters. We have a lot of natural stone in our house, so these immediately caught my eye.

Me- “Ooohhhh! Look at these! I can decoupage something cool on here!”
Jason- “What the hell is decoupage? That is a stupid word. Please don’t ever say it again. You need to get off Pinterest for a while.”
Me- “Let’s go price the Mod Podge!”

Sunday we were walking along the river at the park. I found these cool things in the grass that had fallen from the trees. As I was scooping them up for a project I have in mind, my daughter Mariah asks what I was doing.

Me- “I have a project I want to use these on.”
Jason- “Didn’t we talk about you staying off Pinterest?”
Mariah- “What’s a Pinterest?”
Jason- “A place that crazy people like to go.”

Last night I asked Jason if he would buy me a sewing machine.

Me- “I found Allison’s Halloween costume for this year, but I have to make it. I need a sewing machine.”
Jason- “Don’t both of our moms have a sewing machine you can use?”
Me- “I want my own. I’m not driving all the way to their houses just to sew a costume.”
Jason- “We will never recoup the money spent on a machine. You aren’t getting one.”
Me- “I can make this costume for $20!”
Jason- “No, it’s a $300 costume- materials plus a new sewing machine. I’m calling our internet provider and having them block Pinterest.”

*Sigh* Maybe he'll eventually see how fantastic Pinterest really is. He sure isn’t complaining over all the delicious meals and goodies he’s benefiting on from all my new findings from that sight though!

So, are you a Pinterest addict too? If so, how are your husbands handling it?

  1. LOL! I love the whole sewing machine debate. I have a sewing machine as of last year (from my mom) and I've yet to use it...hehe. Don't tell your hubby that though, then he might use it against you! I have to watch myself with Pinterest...I do more pinning, instead of "doing". My husband likes it if I actually make the recipes ;)

I've nominated you for an award, check out my blog!

    1. Yeah, I have that issue too. My problem is with the crafts. I have so many I pin and want to try. Then I drag him to the craft store to help me buy the stuff to craft these ideas with. Then, I only do some. I'm being a bit wasteful I guess, but it's an addiction I tell ya lol.

Can't wait to see my award :)

    1. Compromise~ it is a good thing! Maybe I'll buy my husband an Xbox too so he'll leave my pins alone :)

  3. Hee! Amazingly, I have not jumped into the Pinterest craze just yet though I'm sure it will be *very* soon! I do have to say that my hubby and I had a similar issue with Facebook though he's much more approving of the site now (I think it's because I find alot of deals/freebies that helps with our budget now :) )

New GFC follower here, returning the blog love from According to Momma Hoyle :) Have an awesome Friday!

    1. I admit, my love of Facebook is slowing dying, but those freebies do keep me coming back for more. Pinterest will save you $ too. I've learned all kinds of things I can make myself at home (cleaning products and such) that have really cut down on the grocery budget.

  4. My husband actually like Pinterest. He enjoys the garden, architecture, and photography pinboards! I empathize with how your husband feels about Michael's...I go green (and not from envy) every time I walk into an electronics store.

    1. I feel that way about the hardware store lol. I have to remind myself while I am standing in the drill aisle for 10 minutes that I do the same thing to him in the fabric aisle.

I love the photography and gardening boards too!

  5. Can he do that? Block Pinterest?? NOOOO. Stopping in from Friday’s bloghop and would love a follow back via GFC, Google + … I just started my Facebook page – if you get the chance to check that out as well.

  6. Too funny! I am also addicted to Pintrest. My hubby is not complaining though because I don't do crafts from Pintrest... I cook for them. Never complains about good food! LOL (I'm your newest blog follower)

  7. haha. I love this post :) My husband doesn't really mind pintrest as long as he doesn't have to go with me to Michael's. He went a few times and he has pretty much boycotted after we went to check out last time and he saw the total as he reluctantly handed me his ATM card (thanks babe, I love you). It's probably the best site ever since ... ever! I always found myself bookmarking things and my bookmarks are a hot mess. This way now I can sort them into wonderful categories :) I'm your newest follower from the hop :) the happily ever after project

    1. OMG, my email was getting out of control. I was constantly emailing myself links to go back to, so I feel you on the bookmarks getting out of control issue. Whoever thought of Pinterest is a genius and must be very organized in their every day life to come up with a site so fabulous!

  8. I just became addicted to Pinterest and my husband isn't handling it well. He came home from work and was like, oh today was a hard day. And I was like yeah, for me too. He turns and just stares at me, at the computer with 586737 Pinterest tabs open. Not listening to how it was my first break all day, he goes on to sarcastically ask me how many things I pinned that day and if my clicking finger is sore. Now every day when he comes home he asks if I was working hard on Pinterest, even if the computer is off! What a jerk lol.

    1. Is your husband related to mine? I get those same sarcastic comments. Don't get me wrong, he's fully supportive of me being a stay at home mom, but I usually get ~ "Got a busy day of doing nothing ahead of you". It's his little running joke. I think from now on he won't be getting any yummy snacks I find recipes for on Pinterest.

  11. I do love Pinterest! Your post made me laugh. I try to do most of my computing when hubby's not around. Cause if he really knew how much I was on he'd definately have something to say lol.
